Roman-byzantine gold coin to identify & evaluate

5 berichten • 76 keer bekeken

Hello, friends!

Please, can you identify & evaluate this very nice roman (byzantine) gold coin?!

The coin's weight is 3,73 g.

Also, what preservation state would you put on it?

Many thanks for any help!

Solidus of Valentinianus I, Antioch mint, RIC IX 2b.

We have variants from Rome, Nicomedia and others, but the one from Antioch is not yet on our catalog.

Hi! Thank you!

So, it is an interesting and rare (???) coin!?

May we say this?!

Any idea of value?!

Last question: How do we know that the mint is Antioch?

It is clearly from Antioch because of the letters at the bottom of the reverse, ANT(+officina letter, this case I).

And not being here means nothing regarding rarity, it only means that we are yet to add it here.

Our catalog pages are created and enhanced by the users, think of Wikipedia. And there are thousands of ancient and medieval coin types in highly specialized catalog books that haven't been added here yet.
