Chinese 5 Zhu identification [opgelost]

5 berichten • 105 keer bekeken

I have a (probaly Eastern) Han 5 Zhu coin that I'd like to pinpoint a little bit further.

Weight: 24 2.4 g
Diameter: 25.6 mm
Width of the hole: 9.5 mm

I think it may be this one: N#7409, but the weight is a little bit light. I've checked it in the Hartill cataloge and I think that the 10.2 is still the closest match:

Also a follow-up question: I originally thought that the damage of the hole is just accidental, but then I found some info that they sometimes deliberately did this to create a flower-like hole: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Huachuanqian

Could this be the case with my coin?

Weight is 2.4 g (not 24 g), based on Zhu outlook, coin is Eastern Han Wu Zhu. Hartill code is 10.2. Gratzer & Fishman has a bit more detailed reference book and based on that your coin is Guangwu Di Wu Zhu, cast AD 40-75. Reference code B4.1o is the closest one and yes, that coin has a so-called flower hole like yours. The dimension and weight varies a lot and your coin is authentic, nice scarce coin.

Yes, I've messed up the weight, it's 2.4 g. 🙂
Thank you for your help with the identification!
