2.5 Indian Head show to know of is proof ...

How I can recognise  if my 2.5 dolar feom 1913 is proof ??? Older coins mirror effect  usly is gone ….please help..

I would imagine like most (if not all?) US proof coins, the difference will be in the strike and details. Proof coins will be struck better, along with exhibiting sharper and better detail. Proof coins are also produced with unique die pair(s) vs business strikes.

From what I've seen the 1913 $2.5 finish is matte, not mirror like.

With 722,000 1913 Regular Strike examples minted and only 165 1913 Proof examples minted of which most of the Proof versions are already slabbed, graded and accounted for.  I would guess your coin example is raw and that the odds are not in favor of you having a Proof version . A Photo of your example could end the speculation rather quickly. 

If not proof looks like proof to me if I compare with mhc photos .they not better looking at all .

Hello .Yes 

The visible finish on your coin in no way indicates a proof coin. Unless you are buying a proof coin, indicated as such with accompanying documentation, and with the fact that less than a couple of hundred proofs were minted, the chances of finding a proof that not recorded as such is almost impossible.  A proof coin will stand head and shoulders above all coins.
 

If your coin is real, be happy that you have one, try to stop believing it is something it is not, and enjoy what you have.

To be honest I dont agree with you proof coin of idian head have no documentation and if you compare detailed photos my one is excatly like proof one…aswell I will not agree you cand find very expensive coin by incident lots of cases was like this ….

If you want to convince us take decent photographs of the coin outside of the flip.

And  really I  love the coin even if is not a proof one  I'm lucky with the  MS grade but wonder becouse my one looks same like a proof one and is not first gold coin i own .I'm with coins 2 years already…I cant agree aswell you can't find proof coin beciuwe I have found many my self and I have paid like not for proof ones  I beilve luck  😀

No problem .I will make some nice photos out of the flip .I'm just investigating  not saying it is …But not sure why ti me looking just to high grade .Just 2  tiny hair line visible just under higer zoom .I'm considering  sending to ngc but I'm in uk and I'm not sure if is worth it

I think you should send it to NGC, and think of us by keeping the forum updated by their response and your response to them. I for one am interested to know how that correspondence will pan out.

I tried to play with light and zoom but I admit that it is a challenge to take a picture properly... They came out ok but I think it looks a bit better in real life

Same here I think it will grade MS 70 top population.

I hope that I will manage to get at least MS 60.....MS 70 sounds nice but I don't think it's real haha. You're probably just kidding

If you get MS 60….MS 70  you'll know it's not a proof coin.
