Variant or imitation?

Recently inherited my father’s silver. I have no idea how savvy/ careful he was. I have one of these rounds that has continuous reeding instead of segmented. It could be a variant but it also strikes me as a possible security feature. 
Wt. 31.29,   color looks good to my inexpert eye. No strong magnet with me now.
