Hello,

In 2019 France made 5 Cent coins with the old and the new reverse.

If you don't know the difference, you can see it here: N#238 (the example is from Slovenia 2018, but it's the same design)

A good way to tell them apart is that the old reverse has 3 lines with the same length next to the globe, while the new design has only 2 lines with the same length and the third line is shorter:

I am looking for the version with the new design (or if you have both versions, that's even better! But I'm mostly looking for the new version).

Thanks for having a look and have a nice weekend

I am still looking for the coin and added a few new coins to my swap list.

All the best,

Jan

I am still looking for this variant.

Hi,

I see that the 2018 Slovenia was only released as proof or BU in sets. Does this mean that the ones from France are issued in sets only or were they released as a circulation issue?

Also were there another countries that had the newer reverse in there sets?

Thanks, Merv

The coin page says that they were circulation issues.

Yes, in the case of France, both are in circulation. There are other interesting cases that have the new and old reverse in the same year, with some cases where both are in circulation and some with only one in circulation.

Here are the best lists I know of regarding this topic. They are in German, but should be easy to understand if you translate the country names:

I Live in the UK so I don't get many Euro coins.

At the moment with the 5 Euro Cent coins I only have :- Germany ‘A’ 2020 & Spain 2018, 2020, 2022, 2023 with the later lines on the reverse.

Is there a full list of countries & years on Numista (are they added to the individual countries in the catalogue as old & new reverse) . Should they have their own listing like when the map of Europe was changed in 2007/08?

I also have a 2 Euro Cent coin of Spain 2018 with the later lines. are the 2's & 1's also changed?

Thanks, Merv

There is no list on numista that I know of. On some pages the version is mentioned, on others not.

But you can see it here:

A means old design (three lines), N means new design (2 lines):

The first table starts with 2016 because before 2017 the new design wasn't used.

1 and 2 Cents have also been changed, and since 2023, we also have a new design for 20 Cent coins and since 2025 also 10 and 50 Cents.

2025 has not been added yet to the table, but it seems there are a few countries, that use the new 10-50 Cent designs this year.

I also read, that starting with 2026(?) all Euro countries will use the new designs for all their 1C-50C coins.

I don't think numista will make new catalogue entries for the new designs, since it more a variety. The change is not significant enough for most people to notice. Other examples are the ‘KMB’ versions for 1-5 cents from Germany 2002. Or the 2008 EMU 2€ coin from Spain, with the small star and big star version. Most paper catalogues don't make a new number for these coins either.

I hope I could answer all of your questions.

There is no need for new pages, but they if there are 2 variants in the same year they do deserve their own yearline as the difference is easy to notice. And by the way “Numista” never makes catalogue entries … it's users who make them, and you have my vote to add missing varieties.

No new swaps for the moment, still too many half-ongoing swaps to clean up!
