Help identifying Roman coin – possibly Hadrian – Petra, Jordan

3 berichten • 70 keer bekeken

Hi everyone,

I’m looking for help identifying this ancient coin during my trip to Petra, Jordan.

Details:

Weight: 3.82 grams

Diameter: 17 mm

Material: Appears to be silver or bronze with a gold-like patina

Obverse: Bearded man facing right, likely a Roman emperor

Reverse: Standing figure holding globe and scepter

Visible inscription: “P M TR P COS III P P” – which seems to indicate Hadrian

Photos of both sides are attached.
Any help confirming authenticity, identifying the exact variant, or estimating its value would be much appreciated!

Thanks in advance

Hello,

Welcole aboard !

I bet there are not the right pictures :)

Geta as Caesar

P SEPT GETA CAES PONT

AETERNITAS AVGG

not listed in the RIC IV-1

Referee of south atlantic islands

As Frenchlover said, it looks like you mentioned another coin.

Here comes the odd part: It's not anywhere in the catalog.

Searched on OCRE twice, one for each lettering.

For P SEPT GETA CAES PONT: https://numismatics.org/ocre/results?q=fulltext%3AP%20SEPT%20GETA%20CAES%20PONT

For AETERNITAS AVGG: https://numismatics.org/ocre/results?q=fulltext%3AAETERNITAS+AVGG

Nothing similar on both.

You sure it's not some tourist replica?
