Help with coin ID. India Malwa? [opgelost]

5 berichten • 83 keer bekeken

Hello

Here is another old coin from India that I purchased from an online dealer.

The dealer had attributed this coin as “Malwa Sultan Mahmud Shah, Half Tanka”

Weight – 4.2 g     Diameter – 14.4 x 14.4 mm    Thickness - 3.7 mm

This is close, but I don't think it's an exact match

I also have authencity concerns with this coin. Could it be fake?

It seems to be in extremly good condition for a maybe 500 year old coin.

And the patina seems odd. What do you think?

Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Looks o.k, these are often found in good condition, top half of date is visible as 922 ah for Mahmud shah ll

I agree with @Vic65. The coin looks OK, and there was great variability in these coins, so if it doesn't match exactly that's not a concern. I have not seen fakes of this type of coin.

I think your coin is a match to the coin listed as # M173 in Goron & Goenka, The Coins of the Indian Sultanates.

Yes, I think that is a match. I am just getting started with Indian coins, so all of this is very helpful.

Thanks for the help on the ID and I feel confident that it is authentic.
