United States 1889 half dollar "gold coin"? [opgelost]

I've had this coin quite a few years (10+) and could have sworn I found it in the catalogue, but I may be thinking of another $1 dollar I have. Does anyone recognise it, date is worn but I'm 99.9% sure it reads 1889 when looking at a certain angle. Weight is 0.5g and diameter is 11.04mm. Bust looks almost comical, could it be a jewellers copy or a trade token ? Thanks for looking.

Mint mark G?  No “United States of America?”  Probably a takeoff of this dollar coin:  N#6157 Not something the US minted. Is it gold?

1869 is the date. Maybe a coin from the California gold rush era.

They look similar to those.

As far as I know, all of the territorial gold coins had the issuer's name on them and none would have a G mint mark on them.

Looks like I got the date and location correct - hopefully

Wow. I blew that one.  Learned something new.

Thanks for the info, passed it on to a buyer friend.
