Hello, and I hope you are well!

I am requesting the issuer “Perak” be updated and fixed, as to keep the Malaysian catalog orderly and correct. At the moment, Perak is just named “Perak” instead of the proper "Sultanate of Perak". Additionally, it is found free floating under Malaysia, when it should be appearing under “Islamic States of Malaysia”. Here are the edits:

Name: "Sultanate of Perak"

Map Location: Malaysia

Malaysia

----- Islamic States of Malaysia

---------- Sultanate of Perak

Have a wonderful day!

‘Sultanate of Perak’ is the long title.

‘Perak’ is the common short name for this state.

That’s obviously true, but irrelevant to my point. Every single Malaysian and Indonesian sultanate other than Perak is formatted as “Sultanate of…”, changing Perak to match makes the catalog more uniform, organized, and looks more professional.

Not to mention that the official Numista issuer names should be their proper names, not “common short names“

Hey! Specialist Malay / Nusantaran collector here. Perak existed long before the namesake Sultanate with numerous issues of the various states that inhabited the area before then (malacca sultanate, local tin mine issues etc) and are thus the terminology is not considered synonymous. Further more, this point is irrelevant as this is just bringing the name in line with the other Malay Islamic states.

This is what my Perakese coins look like;

The Sultanate of Perak was an actual historical issuer that made true circulation coins from the 17th century to the 19th century. We should not be basing our catalog issuers around modern fantasy “coins”, as those are not really from Perak

Definitely needs a ruler being added.

This and many other tokens like it are not actually from their stated issuers, but were instead used by merchants first in Singapore and later throughout Maritime Southeast Asia. Im not exactly sure where a token like this should go atm, but under Perak is misleading and wrong imo

If we know where that item would go, we could move this Perak issuer among fantasy issuers. Postal order should be in Malaysia in my opinion.

But even without the solution for the token, sultanate and current state is something different. I just created Sultanate of Perak among Islamic States of Malaysia.

Indeed they are. But not under Perak, but as modern fantasy bullion under the modern state of Malaysia.

What do you think of these?

We are often not using the full official place names if they change over time.

For example, we have a section called Italy > Italian States > Milan which covers  Commune of Milan, Republic of Milan, Duchy of Milan and so on.

For some time this section was titled Duchy of Milan, and then “Duchy of” was dropped.

Malaysian Postal Orders are classed by State & Federal Territory of issue.

That is why some are under the actual states in Peninsular Malaysia.

Ones issued in Sarawak are under ‘Sarawak’.

And this is incorrect. Washington State tax tokens aren't under the issuer “Washington State”. The sultanate issuers on Numista refer to the historic sultanates, not the modern day states of Malaysia. All postal orders produced after the unification of Malaysia belong under the issuer “Malaysia”, and I already have submitted the requests to correct them.

Malaysian Postal Orders were also issued in Brunei for a time, but there are 2 50 Ringgit ones issued at Seria that are listed under ‘Brunei’ for this very reason - as Brunei is now a fully independent monarchy inside the British Commonwealth since 1 January 1984.
