Hello
Can anyone give me information about this object - coin
( Katanga Copper Katanga Cross 18th - 20th Centuries,Copper 185.09g.; 93.7 mm. ).
I bought it from Katz Auction, so it has some authenticity.
I think this is they only entry for those coins:
N#46820
Quite wide-ranging, from 2.2 g to 1 kg.
When it comes to authenticity, I guess bought on auction houses are not absolute guarantee.
Hello, i can't offer any information about your piece, but I'm sharing an image I found online showing different types and shapes of Katanga crosses and other forms of currency represented in ingots.
There are a couple of interesting papers about the different types of these crosses: https://haulet.be/livres/congo/Histoire%20des%20Croisettes%20au%20Congo%20belge%20-%20Pierre%20de%20Maret.pdfand also: https://www.researchgate.net/publication/336305733_Case_study_copper_ingots_in_Central_Africa
I'm going to make a change request of the current Katanga cross page, do add these.
Thanks for the informations.
Just a small update: My change request to ad these different types of crosses is approved.
