Hello! As you know, the euro will enter Bulgaria on 01.01.2026 and banks sell euro packages worth 20 leva. I bought such packages and in one of them I found an additional 2 euro coin, but it is only the inner disk, which is silver, weighs about 4 grams, and the diameter is about 23 mm. There is no outer ring and the image on the back of Paisii Hilendarski is condensed and printed together with the stars on this inner disk. The package was missing a 0.20 euro cent coin. What do you think about this coin? Is it a marriage or ...

Error.

Fascinating mint error!  Somehow the inner planchet was never mated with the outer one and was fed into the minting press. Being smaller than the collar it expanded and was struck with the part of the die that normally would only strike the outer ring.  How this wasn't caught when the set was assembled is curious.  What is the thickness?

 

The thickness is about 2 mm.

I'm pretty sure what I described is what happened.  You can see on the reverse the stars and most of the O that are normally on the outer ring are there and on your first picture you can see the planchet is a clad one so it is the inner core of a 2 Euro coin.
