Hello everyone

I would like your help on My Ducat coin 1816

It measures 38.5mm in width, 2.5/2.7mm in depth and weighs 0.81oz

I have been searching for any fake identification marks that are known on the internet.

Is this coin real or fake, that is the question I put in your hands.

Your knowledge  and wisdom will be very much appreciated.

Regards

Lee

0.81 oz as in 25.19 g?

When talking about a specific object always provide a link to the respective catalog page.

Non of the examples from the auctions have a rim like yours. How does the edge of yours look like?

That’s the confusing bit for me too,

when I weigh it in grams its weighs 22.96g

Am I right in thinking it should weigh 28g ?

Or as the thickness is unknown in mm, could that be where mine differs in the weight?

Is the 28g an average weight over the coin production ? or just what authentication has come across in the coins so far?

sorry for lots of question?

An avoirdupois ounce is 28.35 grams. A troy ounce usually used for measuring precious metals is 31.1 grams. You were measuring in avoirdupois ounces 0.81 X 28.35 = 22.96 grams.

Doesn't much matter. It should weigh close to 28.1 grams.  Is it silver? Is it magnetic?

Thank you for putting me straight on that.
 It’s not magnetic

acid silver test is a bright red.

i will be sending this of to be graded and then to be sold. This looks to  of had very little public circulation, am I right in thinking so?

Anyone able to say roughly were it would fall in being graded?

Being 5 grams underweight with that rim I think you should consider it a fake.  And you haven't shown the edge as asked.

Count the number of lines in the shield and coat of arms.

Thanks rsirian1, somehow a zero got deleted on my link.

Why would you use a destructive test like acid testing on a coin you want to send in for grading? Is the large circular discolouration the remnant of your test?

Yes this was before a novice like me started to look at the coins more.

apologies if that offends anyone.

Not offensive but quite a bad idea.

Pretty obvious isn't it?

Pretty convincing at first glance (except for the weight).

Some issues on the lettering, too, but you really need to be looking closely.

Worst of all, there are not many examples for comparison.
