cambodian silver coins

7 berichten • 138 keer bekeken

I recently came across several old Cambodian coins and I’m trying to learn more about them.

I’m not a specialist, so I’d like to know their approximate value and the best way to sell them. I assume that an expert appraisal is required before any sale, and I would appreciate advice on the proper process (expert, numismatist, auction house, etc.).

Thank you in advance for your help and insights.

Have an expert/auction house appraise/sell them.  If real, especially the first one it will be worthwhile.  Have you compared the weight, diameter,  edge to the information on the coin pages I linked? Any magnetic? Done any silver tests?  The top one looks like a copy to me. Compare the hair:

To my eye they all are cast forgeries.

Grosz do grosza i będzie kokosza.

I must admit that your obseration make sense, the hairs do look different on mine.

I did the tests as you suggested, the coin isn't magnetic (which I guess is good ?) also the size is correct, but the weight is slightly lower.

Is that enough to conclude the coin is fake ? Or is is still worth trying to find an expert ?

How much lower is the weight?  Where did you acquire it?

I'm not an expert on these coins but my opinion is it's a fake.  As far as taking it to an expert that is not a bad idea. The risk is little but the reward is great.

the coin weight is 24.3g.

I found all the coins on a market in cambodia.

I think the tical is definitely fake yes, I was hoping the norodom 1 one was real, but listening to you I'm starting not to believe it anymore.

What about the franc ? I was thinking this one was real, I bought bunch of them..

24.3 grams is too light. It's a fake.

I'll take a closer look at the other one.  Weight? Diameter? Magnetic?

Edit: I believe that one is a fake also.  The face and fold lines in the robe are off and the lettering on the reverse is off.
