One of the most unique chapters in Hansi’s history occurred during the decline of the Mughal Empire. An Irish adventurer named George Thomas carved out his own independent kingdom in Haryana.

 

Capital of a "State": Thomas chose Hansi as his capital in 1798. He rebuilt the ruined fort, established a mint to coin his own currency, and raised a disciplined army.

 

Demise: His "reign" was short-lived; he was defeated in 1801 by a combined force of the Marathas and General Perron (a French commander).
