If so, it depends on the grade and variant but in decent condition (high f to xf) around 3 euro according to numista.

:)

Interesting coins these, because he was forced to abdicate, the West and East African coins are the only circulation coins that had his name on. No coins were ever put into production with his portrait, just Pattern coins, where he insisted on facing left instead of right (as tradition of facing opposite way to previous monarch) because he was so vein! When his brother took the thrown after his abdication, he also wanted to face left and because the pattern coins had been struck for Edward facing left which should have been right, they allowed George VI to face left being the opposite of the way Edward should have faced.

He was forced to abdicate due to marriage, when he married a divorcee. However the truth is more to do with the fact he goaded over his Grandfather last Kaiser of Germany who openly supported Hitler and the National Socialist Party, had Edward VIII been on the thrown in 1939 the UK would have more than likely surrendered if he had any influence, or he would have been ousted a different way.

The Pattern coins stayed locked in a safe at the Royal Mint for about 40 years until it was judged not so controversial to open them.

His name was on a coin from Fiji and one from New Guinea.

There are interestingly, some gold and silver pieces issued by local Indian kings in his name as well.

The Earth is a Triangle

Hi King,

Indeed, the few coins that were minted in some colonies of the British Empire in the name of Edward VIII are interesting and and a curious numismatic "anecdote" that testifies to a a brief but crucial historical event. They were minted despite the fact that the constitutional and political aspects (marriage to a divorcee, pro-Nazi sympathies) in Edward's “private” life already suggested the difficulties the United Kingdom would have faced having him as King.

Finally, a genealogical correction: Emperor Wilhelm II of Germany (1859-1941) was not Edward VIII's grandfather, but his uncle. Wilhelm was a first cousin of George V (1865-1936), Edward's father; both Wilhelm II and George V were grandsons of Queen Victoria.

Thanks for the correction, I knew it was something along those lines and i was reluctant to give their family tree any more of my time, any such family that changes its name from House of Hohenzollern to Windsor because of conflict (in this case The Great War / WWI), is just feeding the peasants what they want to hear so that they can continue in the lap of luxury whilst others suffer.

The rich and powerful see themselves as people who were born to lead (throughout history and today), and whilst there probably were great leaders in amongst such people, the majority of the rich and powerful are merely manipulative narcissists serving their own agendas and do not care about the havoc and consequences they cause around the world. However the saddest thing about such rich and powerful people is not that they do what they do, but that they always have enough stupid people to manipulate into following / voting for them etc.

Absolutely coincidental, but this just popped up from the IWM, a new video looking at the royal families of Europe before WWI.
