Proposition to appoint an (or multiple) event organizer(s)

As a fairly new member I was wondering, is the MPCC ever going to come back? It seemed like a fun contest on the forum that I kind of saw foward to joining sometime, but then all the posts about it just stopped.

 Also, there doesn’t currently seem like there are a lot of events. The one I know of currently is the numista holiday gift exchange but I feel like more than one pretty short event would make the community much more fun to interact with and happy. 

Therefore I propose that someone should become an official event organizer, making fun events for everyone on the forum to enjoy. 

I’m looking for opinions on this, not just from the moderators, but also from the community. 

Would you want more friendly events here?

I’m hoping to keep this thread alive for a while and not let it die, so I’ll be bumping this if needed. (as this has gotten no support I’m not bumping this)

In hindsight, the part I edited out was rude. I understand both Jarcek and Xavier are busy people with busy lives, and I do not want to pester them constantly with my request here. Please accept my apology for that oversight, and have a nice evening.

Like you stated, numista is a community, so everyone is free to start up some events when they feel like it. For example on the French side occasional guessing games are organised, often even with prizes offered by the organiser.

 

The ocasional attempt has been made to organise another MPCC competition, but as long as there is no volunteer with enough time, it will not happen. Having an official event organiser would put all the pressure on one person, while events will just pop up when someone has a cool idea AND enough free time. So let's all be event organizers … when we feel like it.

I appreciate you coming with insights Bram. Really hoping to expand on this idea further, so these types of posts are very helpful.

 

With that being said, I have some new ideas.

 

First of all, you said putting all of the pressure on one person is going to be quite exhausting for them, which I agree with. 

 

Just the time to put up all of the forum posts is going to take up way too much time for one person (if we’re thinking MPCC scale here), not to mention the possibility of prices. 

 

Therefore I thought, why not assemble a team? That would solve both the issue with the posts and the prices, as that could be divided up between the members, lightening the load of everyone. 

 

This in combination with my next idea would also make it easier to create these events with more people discussing on how to make them interesting and fun!

 

For my second idea, why not rebrand something that has needed an exchange for a while now?

 

Everyone knows the MPCC forum has a slim chance of becoming active again, so why keep it that way?

 

My idea is that this forum could be exchanged for a general event part! 

 

This could serve as not just a place for all events to take place in, but also as a spot for all members to discuss and share their ideas on new events.

 

The reason I feel like this can’t be done on the free discussion forum is that it often gets drowned out by the tons other discussions and becomes forgotten after a while. As seen on the most recent holiday gift exchange, the mods had to pin it to the top since it got drowned out.

 

This can of course be made possible with all events, but not with requests. If more people started posting new ideas about events there, I’m sure many good ones would disappear quickly.
