Help with identification and value of coins

2 berichten • 77 keer bekeken

Hi,

I found these coins and was wondering if anyone could help me to identify and value them if possible as I am struggling?

The coins are:

Coin 1    13mm across    2mm deep    3.41g

Coin 2    13mm across    2mm deep    3.97g

Coin 3    13mm across    2mm deep    3.44g

Coin 4    14mm across    2mm deep    3.60g

Coin 5    14mm across    3mm deep    3.36g

Coin 6    14mm across    3mm deep    3.51g

They look like silver but I've not had them tested.

Any help would be great.

Thanks

Coins 1, 3, and 4 are examples of the famous “bull and horseman” jitals of greater historical India (including parts of Pakistan and Afghanistan). Millions of these were made, generally between 900-1300 AD, by numerous rulers, in dozens of varieties. Sometimes it can be difficult to determine the variety, but maybe some of our members can help, and with the coin in hand you may be able to find a match in one of the references. Here are a few good sources of information.

Robert Tye’s book Jitals is also a great resource. The illustration pages are available as a free .pdf download (with registration) from https://www.academia.edu/356700/Jitals
