This is a scarce iron coin from Sendai.

Although David Hartill marks this coin as common, I see these go for high prices on eBay (unrusted). The book says:

"This square coin is an iron sen, minted at Ishinomaki, Mutsu province between the 4th and 7th years of Tenmei. 308,000 srings of this coin were issued. The coin was so bad that, if they were carried in a bag for one day it would be torn, and out of a hundred, two or three would be broken. The use of this coin was strictly prohibited outside of the province. Copper specimens will probably be mother coins (when casting coins, the casting "money trees" each have a large coin at the top, known as a "mother coin") for casting the iron coins, or fantasies."
