I believe that Denmark should be the origin country for this coin. Not the USA.

Denmark controlled the Islands during the time that Subject coin was minted (1859) by the Royal Danish Mint (Den Kongelige Mønt), Copenhagen, Denmark (1739-date).  The islands were eventually sold to the United States for $25 million which took over the administration on 31 March 1917 and renamed the territory the United States Virgin Islands.

Well… I think the catalogue does not claim those islands were US Virgin Islands at that time, but nowadays.  

The same happens with a lot of territories. Mexico was part of the Spanish Empire until 1821, even tough all the coins before that date are located in Mexico section, not in Spain:

I suggest beginning the graph at 1462. Very informative yet just the European Colonizers and their endless wars and territorial claims. Now Asia, Russia, and others.
