Have you ever gone through your collection and find a coin in it that was mislabeled or your forgot you had it. I just had this happen. I am in the process of re-organizing my collection and I was searching in a small box and I found a Eastern Caribbean coin. It was labeled as 10 Cents 1965. But upon further inspection it turns out it is a Eastern Caribbean 50 cent coin 1965. With a mintage of only 100,000 and I didn't even know I had it. The only problem is that the obverse has some bad scratches but it still made my day. I would like to read about anybody else's experience with this.
Mostly they are recorded thanks to Numista!
But this reminds me that I have couple of Princely State coins that I couldn't find any details and left them unlabeled.

I agree with you on the stamps one Kenny, I used to have a pretty extensive Japanese collection and the ones from the 1920s and 1930s were such a complex series to get, so many different perfs, watermarks, etc. I used to live the chrysanthemum series from the late 1800s to the early 1900s.
If you need help with Japanese stamp identifying, I can help.
I guess you could say I'm an expert in both Asian coins and stamps. Look out for large-small dies, no watermark, thick wave watermark, thin wave watermark... that's pretty much all you need to know when working with 1920's-30's Japanese stamps. Sorry my ancestors had to make it hard for you.
Going back to coins, Roman, Indian, and Tibetian coins are extremely hard to identify. I say this because they are sitting on my desk and I don't even bother to look them up.

Glad I read this post...I went through my collection last night after doing so, comparing it with what I have registered on Numista and I was really excited to find out that I had mislabeled a Rhodesian 20¢ as 1975 rather than the 1977 that it was. Closed out that series, without buying a duplicate by mistake!
I bought a lot of coins in Germany... I pulled out a particular piece that looked of gold ( my father said it was impossible...) and about 2 months after, I searched it up on Numista and...

Citeer: manxcat12I don't know what you mean, like H for Heaton or KN for King's Norton?
I've got a big box of half pennies and pennies, but I've always collected them by year, I didn't know that they sometimes have different mintletters on them. So I've never looked at them at that way. That's why I have to sort them out and to look if I can find any mintletters on them. And yes, than I look for mintmarks as an H or KN.
