Hello everyone,
On Numista we met persons from different country, different culture... And it's very interesting to know about another cultures. I love to watch music or just listen it up. So, here I am willing to share some music links of our country. Also requesting Numista friends to share songs of their country, which your most favourite now or it say something about your culture....
I'm liking Hungarian women very much Imreh. That could have been filmed in the Blue Ridge with that scenery although she would have been wearing Daisy Duke shorts. I don't think you can claim Barak Bulsara from Zanzibar as being representative of Hungarian culture though. I might have missed the point as the first vid is blocked in the US.
Tony, you made me all misty eyed, nanny used to sing those same songs to me at nap time along with one about Antonio and his Ice Cream Cart.
<sniffle>
Non illegitimis carborundum est. Excellent advice for all coins.
Make Numismatics Great Again!
Here's a song I like very much. It's fairly recent, and I think you would enjoy it
The guy who sings it is freaking ugly, just ignore him ahaha
But the song in itself is really beautiful, and if you wish, check a translation or something, the song's really beautiful. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OAhar3pb_KU
Hi frenchlover I can't communicate with you because my message sytem is not working so I can't answer you, can we continue with the swap in email, in the swap page send me your email please.
I could post a link to some ABBA-song, but those you can find for yourself! Also no blonde women called Helga who speaks with a German accent (as in Wayne's World).
Since I am from Newfoundland and Newfoundland was its own country until 1949, I claim the right to post some Newfoundland traditional songs on this thread. Here are a few of the common ones / favorites:
And of course, what would a Newfoundland music post be without something by Great Big Sea? Much as some Newfoundlanders may or may not like them... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q7Bsb-8pxG8 (The Night Pat Murphy Died)
A six year Numista absence makes the heart grow fonder... ?
2. We have TV show- Dziedošās ģimenes (singing families), here is one of my favorite Folk song from that show- Vītolu ģimene (PIKITS SĒŽ OZOLĀ) : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VNmUthNc8fQ
3. Imants Kalniņš is one of best Latvian song writer, I just picked one of his songs, but he have loads of good songs: Imants Kalniņš- Karsta Mana Jauna Dziesma: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2ekrjJYrmeo
5. We have another TV show- Koru kari (Chorus fights), when chorus from diferent regions in Latvia are challenging between each other. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6AZhsyJ4Yzc
8. Folk song in extinct Livonian language (there are just around 50 people left who can fluently speak in Livonian but they are not native speakers). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KesDeaNLXX0
I'm proud by our Romanian anthem. I found a version with English translation and maybe at first look it's funny even the title ("Wake up, Romanian!") but anyone who knows the history of my nation would understand all the lyrics.
Another song from Romania that I like it very much it's a military song named "Romanian battalions pass over Carpathians". It was written in 1918-1919 during the war against socialist Hungary.
Citeer: bideshReally surprised that, you know his name.
My wife's Fijian Indian so I get to watch Bollywood movies, but she doesn't get mad when I support NZ over India in the cricket, I got the best of both worlds

Socialist Hungary? We were a Kingdom in 1919! ... Kingdom till 1946!

I don't understand what you mean when you say the Hungary was an empire in 1919, maybe other but not the Austro-Hungarian empire because this one was splitted in 1918 and the history also mention a war in 1918-1919 between Hungarian Soviet Republic and the Kingdom of Romania, not between Austro-Hungarian empire and Kingdom of Romania.
Hi, I have read some about this era and I think I have the definitive answers.
After the dissolution of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, Austria became a Republic and Hungary became a Regency (forget the other struggling countries that emerged from this Empire after 1918). The Admiral Miklos Horthy claimed to rule on behalf of the Habsburg line, although when the Habsburgs asked he refused to give up his throne. You can see Miklos on some nice 5-pengo crowns and one tacky aluminum one. The Hungarian People's Republic was only established after World War Two.
As for Canadian music... all you get in Alberta is American music and country music! We sound like a province of backwards hicks. My friend is in a band but he won't let me hear any of their songs.

YES. Thanks, mostly correct. if anyone would need a further discription, let me know...

My fellow Newfoundlander did a fine job of representation years ago (except that "The Night that Paddy Murphy Died" is an Irish song, not a Newfoundland one), but neglected to include our national anthem: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cheiMvrEaC4
In the clip it said "Sweden's unofficial national anthem". Actually, Sweden don't have an official national anthem. The one in use has never been officially recognised by the parliament and are not mentioned in the Swedish constitution, so are therefore it is not official. Despite that it is used in both informal and formal situations and has served as a national hymn since areound 1938. In tje year 2000 tje Swedish parliament found it "unnecessary" to give the song legally official status. Just wanted to share this "fun fact"
He also wrote this army march:
Jääkärimarssi - Jäger March https://youtu.be/D7b8E2lgLY4 (with lyrics and English translation)
The national instrument is the kantele, a string instrument with a charming sound. This locally famous tune (Konevitsan Kirkonkellot, the church bells of Konevitsa) is played very well by a Japanese lady: https://youtu.be/LixNxSGzlGA
Remaining in the land of kantele, I really like this classic Karelian song:
Raita Karpo - Laps Olen Karjalan (I am a Karelian child) https://youtu.be/uVM1IKzBYSE
There's also this world famous a capella folk song, known from the leek girl youtube hit:
Loituma - Ievan Polkka (Eva's Polka) https://youtu.be/1ygdAiDxKfI
Very classic 1960's folk song:
Tapio Rautavaara - Joensuun Elli (Elli from Joensuu) https://youtu.be/OBRnWiBAdxM
Here's a great (and hilarious) example of Finnish disco dancing lessons, including Kari Tapio's Volga song: https://youtu.be/PeQpwQ1xgbI
One of my favourite modern artists is Ismo Alanko, who performed in many different outfits:
Kun Suomi Putos Puusta (When Finland Fell Out Of A Tree) https://youtu.be/ivnxAIQrLsw
Musical-style with political lyrics:
Ultra Bra - Minä Suojelen Sinua Kaikelta (I will save you from everything) https://youtu.be/nd8M21dOrRo
And for the lovers of over the top metal (Iron Maiden style) with a high pitch voice performed by bare-breasted long haired men in leather pants:
Teräsbetoni - Taivas Lyö Tulta (Heaven Strikes Fire) https://youtu.be/i3Sz--mpEx0
Of course there's also songs in the English language performed by Finnish artists, but there are far less than for instance from Sweden. Here's my selection.
Arguably the most famous Finnish international band is the gothic group Nightwish.
I Wish I Had An Angel https://youtu.be/-xPIdta_uXI
And finally the worst rock band in the world, featuring in Ari Kaurismäki's movie 'Go America':
Leningrad Cowboys - Born To Be Wild https://youtu.be/voZRW71N3Cs
Well, Belgium is small and not so old so we haven't got many famous songs.
Jacques Brel is probably one of the most famous belgian singer and song writers from the 20th century. I may be young but I like him and his songs. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V3BSj1cHX-M https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YZETr0cahT8"Bruxelles"
A man that was giving is soul everytime is was singing, just have a look how he was while singing.
Arno and his band TC Matic are probably weird for most of people but i think this is a great singer, "pure belgian spirit", with very poetic songs such as "Les yeux de ma mère" (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2rrYrTQUlY0 ) but also with more... strange songs such as "Oh la la la" with tc matic. Still a good singer these days.
We also have more recently Stromae which is famous. A lot of Brel's influence in many of his songs though. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S_xH7noaqTA
This song was quite a good "comeback" and a good clip considering a lot of people thought he was "out"but he did the clip acting like he was drunk and many people filmed it like "lol look what he has become" but it was for the clip. Featuring the most comprehensive cops of all history.
A grand band, whose singer sadly died last week : Machiavel. A big hit in Belgium "Fly": https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zrVkICMF7ic
But i don't know if it's known outside of Belgium.
Also, Soeur Sourire a singing nun who was back in the days top 1 in the US Billboard or something like that I think with her song "Dominique" lol : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Un_P5dyRfrY
I still don't get how it became famous outside of Belgium.
Now i'll drop some names that i like from Belgium but who aren't famous : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AqunQdv9D-gTeme Tan a friend's cousin who does interesting music. I saw him in a festival with my friend it was nice. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gn021SaIFHU Evil Invaders a new flemish speed metal band i saw in concert two years ago and damn they're great, 80's sounds. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3rTI3J__EoEVeence Hanao a rapper/ spoken word who recently came back after he had hearing problems. Also saw him in concert years ago.
@Jokinen
Finland has definitely a great rock scene these years with bands like Beastmilk, Jess and the Ancient ones, Sink (ok this one is obscure), Seremonia,... I like also older bands like Reverend Bizarre. There are so many bands I don't know from Finland and that are looking good but I haven't got enough time. I'm surprised how many finnish bands i got on my playlist and in CD's and LP's lol.
I sometimes buy through finnish Svart records which is according to me a great label with good music and good prices.
I'm from a different generation and ignored anything that was released after 2007 :-)
Jacques Brel is absolutely brilliant and very influential on many artists. Before my time (I'm not that old) but I like him a lot as well.
And I do remember the pop song Way To Your Heart by Belgian group Soulsister. And you guys are the cradle of a genre named 'diaper pop', with 3 jumping ladies entertaining toddlers and their dads. Look for K3.
And of course Sandra Kim. Just old enough to remember that :-)
I didn't know K3 was that known ! It's more known in the dutch-speaking part of the country i think. I didn't even know there was a name for that genre.
And indeed Way to your heart is a nice song.
"Peronista Marcha" (Peronista Anthem Song) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q20_hBQ6Zxc
whether you share or not the ideology, this song made a mark in my country history for over 60 years.
I'm sure none of you have missed the Gangnam Style, but Korean music is more than just a funny chubby man guy singing about the glamorous lifestyle of the expensive district of Gangnam.
The very best human beings can do is art, especially music, I suggest you to watch the beautiful pics and hear the highest level of human vocal technique in the following Italian songs:

Ah ah, incredible... to hear that in that movie, the great Italian talent for arts...thank you both.
Listen this now, from 'Barbiere di Siviglia' by Rossini, sung by a baritone, a volcano of notes and ideas:
Ahoj
The Hussian chorus originated in the year 1400 - and beyond - the revolution that hit Bohemia in Central Europe
This period is also overlapping in the numismatics of the Hussite coin
On those rare occasions when I'm not already awake at the crack of dawn, my alarm goes off at 7:00 am with the magnificent Luciano Pavarotti singing Nessun Dorma. A great start to anyone's day.
I can't understand anyone lying in bed until mid morning. I'm a lifelong early riser and my favorite time of day is that hour just before dawn breaks.
Non illegitimis carborundum est. Excellent advice for all coins.
Make Numismatics Great Again!
