Only my second post on here!!
A few weeks ago I bought a few stamps from a chap and I happened to mention coins, his eyes lit up and said that he was selling a few too!
Anyhow, he brought them out in a small polythene bag and they were the sorriest things I'd ever seen!!
It was difficult to tell that some were ever coins at all! They looked as though they had been under water for years!! (Lots and lots of years!!)
Some were obviously the 'Cartwheel' pennies and half pennies but there are some that don't fit in with sizes like the ordinary half pennies or farthings!
There was a fair few young head Victoria Pennies and ha/pennies but the verdigris was so bad that detail was lost through corrosion
The mum in law was at our house and said she wondered if they had come from the ornamental pond at Chattsworth house had been emptied of all coins that were thrown in as a 'wishing' well!!
These were just as I would imagine them to be had they been sitting at the bottom of such a lake!!!
Also, I would say that the poor chap I got them from was suffering learning difficulties and may have actually helped with bringing the coins out and given these low value coins whilst the rest were banked by the estate..
I tried all sorts to get rid of the verdigris and have removed most of it but there is still some!!
Here are a few pics of some of the 'better' condition ones (That really means these ones aren't totally smooth!!!

This one is small at around 19.2mm There is a scrape in the metal and it looks brassy rather than coppery..

This one is between 25.6mm and 26.2mm!!

This one varies too between 25.6mm and 26.6mm!

A young Victoria head Halfpenny with the detail in the hair still evident..

I think that maybe most of these coins are beyond identification as they've suffered terribly for a long long time
Maybe the first one with the shield could be ID'd
I feel that there will be no value in these, I only paid two pounds for the bagful!!
Cheers, John
