Could you help me to grade and value these two pennies? Which one shall I keep?

1851
Thanks,

The second one is worth about $45, from my experience with these coins (though the coin dealer I go to would sell it to me for $10).

I've added a better and daylight picture of the 1851 penny (and removing the dirt on the Britannia's wheel)
What are the far and near colon variety?

I have not looked on that site but I think it will show. Also I just now looked in my coin book and it shows the difference - in my picture I added the arrows ...

In my image, the coin on the left shows if the : is the same distance from FID as well as DEF then it is near colon variety (like your 1851), so the far variety has : more further away than yours.

Yes, a : is colon and ; is semi-colon. Actually I just now looked at your 1848 coin and that does have the far colon. So you have both varieties, on different dates.

Citeer: monéphil In french : is "deux points" and ; is "point-virgule" So if you can also translate and amend on the French page, to help other members ...
