Fake 1860 Spanish 25 Centimos de Real coin??

3 berichten
I recently acquired a very nice looking 1860 25 Centimos de Real coins ( KM615.2 ).  It looks great to the naked eye and the pictures from a distance.  The coin is on for width and 2 mm thick.  It weighs 9.2 grams versus the 8.6 listed in Numista.  It is not magnetic.  But upon looking at it under magnification, I see that it is very pitted looking and the coin does not have that smooth planchet look.  It is not just on one side.  It is all over the coin, even on the edge.  The pictures show what I see.  Is it possible this coin came in contact with some foriegn substance to create the pitting or is it a nice attempt to duplicate an old coin?  Any help with this would be apprieciated----------
I'd go for 70% real.
No, it's only 25% of a real! (8

Joking aside... surface issues could have been from exposure to some kind of chemical, or an improperly made planchet. I do not see why this could would be counterfeited... but this is only what counterfeiters want us to think. I will say it's probably authentic but there is something slightly wrong with it.
