Citeer: neilithicSo I could possibly have a $550 coin out of a bulk lot I bought for $10 and already got about $200 worth of coins out of? Amazing.
Does anyone actually have the valuations for AU and MS60 just so I can see the progression?
I can't find any sold in that condition on eBay, so I would treat Krause as a *guideline* until maybe some helpful Norwegian member steps in and tells us the real value.
Reminds me of when I found this, Krause gives it some price that's above $50 (cost me less than $1!) but I was unable to find any sold in this condition anywhere. But, I looked again and found out that on eBay it really does get that kind of price
Yep, except that one looks a little dull, It doesn't really show up because I don't have a decent camera so I scan my coins, but mine has blazing lustre.
Citeer: Tom WolfCongrats Neil! It is a beautiful coin, definitely over MS-60.
However, I must say NGC tends to overrate Scandinavian coins. To be extra sure about the value, you should ask someone with a Krause catalog.
Wish I could find a gem like that......
NGC copies the Krause catalog verbatim (I checked, mine also says $550 for BU), they just change the letter-grades (VG, XF, UNC, etc.) into America's anal-retentive Sheldon numbers (BU becomes MS-63, UNC is MS-60, everything else is pretty easy to figure out).
Citeer: monéphilLustre and toning are not changing the grading.
I know they don't change the grading. They may however alter what people are willing to pay for the coin.
Yes the NGC website state that their values come from the Krause catalogues. I don't have the Krause catalogues so I just look there. But they often leave out values for some grades. I think my local library has a copy of the Krause catalogues, I may have to check them out.
See their little spiel at the top of the page that explains where the values come from
1) Start a new thread for your coins instead of resurrecting a years-old one,
and 2) provide better pictures especially if you're asking for grade
In either case, I don't know how accurate the NGC chart is value-wise but I can say from your (non-optimal) photos, your example (1 Kr) seems to be in a much lower grade than Neil's from 2014.
