Hi,

I'm stuck in identifying this coin to it's period, dynasty, era and ruler. I have also looked at each single 1 cash coin in the numista catalog without finding it... so maybe it's a fake?

Can anybody help me with this?

weight: 3.41 grs
diameter: 25.18 m
thickness: 1.19 mm
alloy: bronze or copper

Thanks in advance
Ole

Hi,

you can stop searching, thanks anyway.

It's a 1 mon coin from Japan, 1668-1700, c#1.2.

By the way it's NOT in the Numista catalog, so if any administrator knows how to add, it would be appreciated.

I have some cash coins that are not even in the David Hartill catalogue (like Krause for coins) so don't worry if you can't find it on Numista.

Here's your coin, second one in the list C# 1.2
I have stopped worrying about Numista... things happen or they don't! I don't know, who has a saying about moving things or not 8~ most of the time I just see a silent wall :8D

Thanks for the help from "Kommodore", and I have entered my coin there.

But as I already said, why don't you have a link in the description of the coin to show how the c#1.2 looks, since it's different from the coin shown.

Just a link... how much room does that take?

Is that too much to ask for? Just tell me that it can NOT be done, although it would surprise me, since you have plenty of "variable" text area at you disposition. I think "Kuna" is setting up something similar for his interest area. Ask him how he does it.

Sorry to argue, but it's only for the best of this site.

The problem with Japanese mon is that there are hundreds of varieties, but I will have the 文 mon separated from the others. What I wonder is why World Coins still uses Cowan numbers (C#).

I'm looking over the mon coins, and separating the different characters is extremely difficult; like I said there are hundreds of varieties and the "bun" mark comes from Kameido, Edo (Tokyo), and so do many other varieties that do not have the bun mark. So either I list the non-mark and marked coins in the same page as Kameido coins, or list them separately as Kameido with mark and Kameido without. Personally I prefer the first.

Hi Kenny,

since I suppose that most of the mon coins are in a pretty poor state, ie the variant feature can not be detected, I would also go for your first suggestion.

Isn't it possible though to insert a link on the level of each line of coin with time? Introduce a new box with a "y" or "n" to say if an image is available just by clicking on the "y" box? When the box is clicked you either get the variant image or documentation (in case of "Y") or just the general description of the type (in case of "N").

Just an idea, and sometime in the future?

Something like this:

There's a lot of talk about image varieties, but that is up to Xavier to solve.

So maybe you can talk to Xavier about this suggestion:
