1964 Irish Penny Mint error?

9 berichten
Hi all, have a nice 1964 Irish Penny, spotted a hairline marked with allows, is this a mint error. Thanks for any help.
Some people consider it a mint error, some don't.  The workers at the mint responsible for inspecting the dies must have gone to the pub for a pint and a shot.  The marks you see are cracks in the die from over stressing it by using to make more coins than it was meant for, or too much pressure on the die.

Thanks Derf, a Monday morning job! Are these common and do they reduce the value of the coin?

They are not really all that common. As for value, I'd say that it doesn't reduce the value any, for others it may increase the value..
