That's verdigris (it will eat up your coin over time). And I'd also give an AU

I can not think that such defect has no impact on grade of preservation of the coin. It will be specified in every Italian grading label.
Yes it might give it a detail grading (corrosion) but it will still be AU

Thanks guys, I'll mark it down in my records as AU with a note to replace it if a better copy comes along. I've now got 2, a 1937 coin in XF and this one.
