Hi, I don't know whether this has been done before, but I was wondering, what's behind the name some members give themselves on this site. I couldn't really think of anything original so went with Richard2.
So what's the reason behind your name ?
Hi,

my nick is first 3 letters of my name and date of battle of Grunwald. Since I'm Lithuanian this is big date for our nation :)

Regards, Tomas

Allies (Lithuania and Poland) fought against German Teutonic knights. Knights were decisively defeated. It was biggest battle in medieval Europe.

My first name is Casper and my mother tongue is Afrikaans (Similar to Dutch or Flemish). Spookie means 'little ghost' in Afrikaans.
Ban Kulin was ruler of Bosnia:

"Kulin (5 May 1163 – 1204) was the Ban of Bosnia from 1180 to 1204, first as a vassal of the Byzantine Empire and then of the Kingdom of Hungary. He was one of Bosnia's most prominent and notable historic rulers and had a great effect on the development of early Bosnian history."

He was remembered as great ruler and this was a time of peace and prosperity in Bosnia:

"His rule is often remembered as being emblematic of Bosnia's golden age, and he is a common hero of Bosnian national folk tales. Under him, the "Bosnian Age of Peace and Prosperity" would come to exist. Bosnia was completely autonomous and mostly at peace during his rule."

This is remembered in collective memory by this old saying: "Od Kulina Bana i dobrijeh dana." - "From Kulin Ban and good days."

My initials and my favourite number 3 times to match the three initials.
Mine is the old English word for one who works with copper, just like a Blacksmith, only copper is the red metal, so redsmith, http://redsmith.wordpress.com/

I made my profile photo, a copper leaf!

Taking a break from swapping for a while, but still interested in pre 1799 Spanish coins, I will make time for that!

Mine is a play on the word Neolithic using my name Neil.  I use it on most websites, either that or a version of it, like neilithicman, neilithic_man, neil_ithic_man, neil_ithic etc
Cerulean is the color of the sky.  I have been using across the Internet since 2001.
I thought the colour of the sky was Azure

No photos I'm afraid. He manufactured huge vessels for the brewery and diary industry.
He worked for APV  ( aluminium , plant  and vessel ) company here in Crawley, Sussex from the early 60's up till the 90's when the factory was demolished.
The last time he worked with a copper vessel was I think in the 90's when he was asked to repair a copper beer vessel for Harvey's brewery in Lewes, Sussex. Because all his work  was mainly done in stainless steel he had to relearn how to weld and work with copper before he could attempt the repair.
My real name is Goran but my name on many forums is PajaSkot

Paja:
when I was kid, I was the youngest in the whole neighbourhood, so I was picked on and bullied a lot. One of the favorite TV shows for boys was a show called "Otpisani" - it was about a group of Serbs fighting German occupation in WW2. We loved that show so that we often played the game of Otpisani on the street with plastic guns. Well, all the bigest kids choose the main characters and since I was the youngest I was the last to pick and I ended being a guy called Paja Baksis - he was one who was imberesing everyone all the time - he was funny and clumsy and also not very brave as other characters of the show...
So somehow bullies started calling me Paja even when we don't play Otpisani and today more people in my town know me as Paja than Goran.

Skot:
In Serbian language "Skot" means "bastard"
When I was in highschool I tagged my name PAJA somewhere on the wall of my school, as many other kids did. My tag was very small and not visable from few steps away from the wall - but my ex girlfriend somehow saw it and she aded SKOT next to my tag - so it was PAJA SKOT - just at that time me and my friends were forming a HipHop band and I choose PajaSkot to be my stage name - Paja the Bastard sounds funny, cool and dirty in same time - and since that that is my name on most of the forums as well.
Bizzo has been my nickname since I was a kid, same first syllable as my surname, and so on the internet I'm "Bizzo".
I added the "Does" a while ago when I was attempting a blog.
The idea being the subject was the first word(s) in the title, so "BizzoDoes I.T: ..." or "BizzoDoes Phototshop: ..." etc.

My avatar is something I tend to add to my "creations", so if they get posted elsewhere, I know they're mine.

Mine comes from SpaceRaptorZulu, which I used on another site.
Don't ask me about SpaceRaptor, but I chose Zulu because it's NATO Phoenetic for Z.
Well Tom Wolf is quite random to be quite frank. I don't like to use personal details for names on sites, as I've always had a grudge on the NSA checking out my accounts and stuff, so no need to feed them with things for free. I guess I heard Tom Wolf somewhere and it sounded quite neat so I used this alias  (8
How about Virginia Woolf?
...or American novelist Tom Wolfe?
Citeer: neilithicHow about Virginia Woolf?
I always think of Virginia as a bit pyscho... if you know what I mean.

As for Tom Wolfe, never actually thought about him. I've heard of the Bonfire of the Vanities although other than reading a few coin magazines, these forums and catalogues, I'm not much of a "novel reader", if you know what I mean. Like my dad always says: "Wait for the movie to come out son".  ;)
Kartway

My name is Kart and I do things Kart-way. Living KartWay is a lifestyle, an attitude, things that you do and how you do them, lol.

At some point I have written some random stuff like "Smiling through the troubles Kart-Way" or "Multitasking Kart-Way" or "Getting rich Kart-Way".

I dunno, somehow through life it has just sticked as my forumname in many places. Even people I know in real life often say about something that it's a Kart-way of things.

Nothing to do with karts (little cars) or kartways where they are driven at. :)
Guess what my number plate is------ remember its only allowed 6 letters or numbers also other places I am known as oldman--Duh
Cheers Don
No prizes for mine ha
Nor do you get any for working out my age !
Mine is very simple: ramonmex

Ramon is my second name, but almost everyone calls me using that second name if they do not know my childhood nickname: Billy (it is an old story).

Mex... my beloved country.

Not much clues!
The name I chose is the title of a Melissa Etheridge song... I find the lyrics very intriguing.

I realized I spelt "Britannia" wrong too late though.... Ah well  :P

My name is Darcy, the rmt is what I do - Registered Massage Therapist in a physiotherapy clinic
Thank you darcy, I've never seen this one before but it's made some interesting reading :)

My nic is simply First initial and Surname followed by the year I met my beloved , first used on a quiz website I am still a moderator on, and now I use it for everything (easy to remember lol).
Not original at all just my first and last name.
My nick is a mutant offspring of Star Trek Klingon (House of) and a Diablo II paladin sub-class, unofficially known as hammerdin, due to their use of Blessed Hammer as their primary attack skill. Pretty silly, isn't it? :O

My name is Davit Mikeladze. Dato / D`ato/ and not / D`eitou/ :) like most US friends call me :) is a friendly name from Davit ( like Robert - Bob, Charlie - Chuck ) .
that's al  :) Mikeladze is my Family name ( surname)

Davit ( დავით ) is same as David, just pronounced with "t" in its end on Georgian. Since Georgian language consists of only with letters, which are sounds as well ( we dont have letter combinations with another sound, like in English or French etc... Each letter has only its own sound, and nothing more) , my name in modern Georgian passport is also DAVIT ( and not DAVID) .

we have two main Saints with name David:
David from Gareja, - ( St`David Garejeli ) - one of 13 Assyrian Monks, who preached Orthodoxy in Georgia in the same time in the 6 th century and founded a unique mountain monastery Gareja.

and

David IV The Builder ( David Aghmashenebeli დავით აღმაშენებელი ) - greatest Georgian King.

thats my history :)

yours
David
Really cool! I always assumed that your name was Dato which in turn I assumed was the Georgian equivalent of David.
Very interesting thread that was hidden in the depths of the forum.

My nick is actually my name. It sounds like Jason but writed in portuguese version.

Usually I avoid my last name, because is the name of an insect, and is too embarassing... z|
Pretty self explanatory.

My middle name is Morgan and I am descended from the infamous rum runner (slaves = rum = guns...rinse and repeat), Captain Morgan. Grandma on my mother's side was from the "Rock" (Newfoundland) and evidently the good Captain stopped by for shore leave at least once.

Cata is my name - short for Cătălin.
I use heretic because I used that ever since I was on the internet.
Most people on english forums think my user is heretic cat, so I added a cat avatar. ^_^
I have been called heretic catalog here tho. It has a nice ring to it. :)
This isn't easy to explain and possibly only those from the UK over 35 would understand.
In the UK pre decimalisation we had a 10 shilling note, this was called a " 10 bob " note.
A person of disreputable character was called many things, one of which was the term -
AS BENT AS A NINE BOB NOTE !! ( not in the homophobic sense )
Not a true reflection on my character in any way, just liked how it sounds.
I deny nothing but doubt everything, opinions are made to be changed, how else is the truth to be gotten at.
Coinman1.
When I first obtained a computer, I always wanted my email to be 'coinman1@' what ever, but someone already had that so I ended up with 'coinman39@' what ever.
Eventually I changed my internet supplier and they usually give you your new email address, but I requested 'coinman1@' and they said I could have it and I have had it ever since.
It also forms part of my website address.
As a numismatist, I think it is a great name, but I suppose I am a bit bias.
I have read many of the reasons behind the title names and it is fascinating the variety of ways we have achieved our title names

oops 5 years late but here it goes:

844448 came from one of the first "nice number" banknotes I received. It is a Taiwanese banknote. Coincidentally, the starting characters of the same banknote are "QW" so I guess that's how my name came to be on Numista. In all honesty, I was a little worn out the day I set up my account so I just groggily keyed in what came to my mind. I'm glad that it did for I'd never know if my username up here will be something like "money makes the world go round" since that was the name of the project I was working on that night.

'BCNumismatics' is actually short for my area of interest - British Commonwealth Numismatics.

It is natural to me, as I live in New Zealand - one of 16 countries that has Queen Elizabeth II as our head of state & monarch.

Mine's not coin related in anyway ;)
Mine comes from videogames, namely the Metal Gear Solid games where you have personell on a base, and they have random nicknames that seem to be Words and Animals.

Hence, Flying, Red Panda

My Numista name is ellemerob. A mish mash of my three daughter's names Ellen, Emer and Robyn.
Hi and have a nice day colleagues.
,,MIMAEL,,
MI- Milánek
MA- Matýsek
EL- Eliška
They are grandchildren, my sweethearts in order of succession. But time is moving forward and it has also been born 2 years,, Kateřina,, / Jekaterina /. It wants to add the suffix "MIMAELKA"
I think that the name is final so far, but you know how it goes and it makes me happy, and I am also slowly preparing a successor so far by slowly arousing interest, I think one has caught on.

Have health and well-being.

Many amusing anecdotes on this thread but a few such as the one above really resonated. Thanks for resurrecting this thread "qwerty844448"

My past usernames (on various forums) never really had much to do with collecting (other than my slow approach) so that's why I chose "Serial Number 8" handle. I think that it's a cool serial number plus it is very specific (non generic). I realize that #1 SN (00000001) is truly the "holy grail" for most collectors with higher BV but a lot of banknote collectors appreciate the #8 (solid 8888888 radars) etc & I like the handle "Celtic Knot" which was used at another site (& didn't want to be a copy-cat nor confused with that collector) & since I always employ specific collecting goals, I figured this number would do the trick.

For me, it's all about a number from just about the most significant event I have ever attended, that being a Youth Conference (a multi-stake three-day long activity for 14-18 year olds in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints) in which I was assigned to Company 27.
