Earliest use of a signature on a coin

I've just picked up an UNC Australian 1970 50c commemorating the bicentenary of James Cook reaching Australia.

I did some research into it and the Royal Australian Mint states that the inclusion of Cook's signature was thought to be the first use of a facsimile signature on a coin.

Is anyone able to disprove this with an earlier example?
One of my favourite modern coins. His ship is harboured as a floating museum just 30 or so miles away from me where he was born !
Which ship?  He had a different one for each of his journeys
Can't remember its name but its britains oldest floating warship.

It's HMS Trincomalee and can be seen at the Hartlepool Maritime museum.
here's a link to it

Endeavour was the one he sailed on his first journey when he circumnavigated New Zealand for the first time, it's the one on our 50c coin

His second voyage was with two ships "Resolution" and "Adventure", third was "Resolution" and "Discovery"
Yeah, is still pretty cool though when you drive past and see it over the tops of the houses it looks as if it were a theme park ride or something until you get close and see its an "old ship" lol
