This coin has been in my collection for a while- I just happened to notice that I listed the metal as aluminum, and these coins were not minted in aluminum, only zinc. The coin I have is 16 mm and weighs 1.6 g, just like the zinc coin should. There is another thread related to this issue- https://en.numista.com/forum/topic3753.html
Has anyone heard of plating these coins with another metal?
Thanks for your thoughts!
Chroming of zinc is possible but equaly unlikely as electroplating it with aluminium or magnesium, the only thing done frequently to zinc is pressing it between thin nickel or copper sheets and yours doesn't look like that.
Try to calculate the density. Weight/Volume = Density (Aluminium = 2,7 g/cm³ or a tiny bit more, pure aluminium was never used in coins) (Zinc = 7,4 g/cm³ or a bit less if alloyed with Tin)

I'll try to remember to bring calipers home from work Monday, and run the formula.
I have compared the 1971 coin with two others of the same KM#, a 1964 and 1965. The two sixties coins are clearly zinc. All three are virtually identical in diameter (15.9mm), weight (1.6 grams), and thickness (1.26mm). The 1971 should be zinc, but is so different in appearance. I have not run across any other zinc coin plated with some other metal post mint- has anyone else?
Hello
Your 1.øre is made of zinc but probably not circulated long
see my photo of a 1.øre in 3. Various Grades
Danish 1.øre was only made of bronze or zinc never in aluminum
