Hi

I managed to ID my 3 indian states on my own. But i'd like to ask you guys some questions about them (and if i ID-ed them correctly)
2 of them are way outside of my area of expertise - 2 of the coins are from the BK (Before Krause) Era.

Here we go:

1. Dokdo - Junagadh state:
Side A:

Side B:

Weight:  6grams aprox
Diameter:  20-21mm

Numista link: https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces47194.html
And here is the Krause entry:

My question - how in god's name do i read the date ???????? On side B of my coin in the upper part, i see the numbers 124...... aaaand where is the last number ?  :snif:  Also, Krause mentions the VS date also ... where is that one ? Should it have been in the very worn part of my coin ?

2. 1½ Falus - Mahmud Shah I - Gujarat Sultanate
Side A:

Side B:

Weight: 13-14grams aprox
Diameter:  18.5-19mm
Thickness: 6mm (very thick)

Numista link: https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces70150.html
Zeno link: http://www.zeno.ru/showphoto.php?photo=138421

My question - Is my identification correct ? On side B: what do the vertical " V O " mean ? 75 ??? (they are more clearly seen in the zeno link, on the left of "Mohammed")
For this case i can see the date on my coin is out of bounds sadly. :(

3.  1 Falus - Mahmud Shah II - Malwa Sultanate
Side A very worn down on the upper and lower sides:

Side B very worn in the upper left corner:

I'm sorry my phone seems to hate square coins, it just didn't want to make a good pic.

Weight: 7-8g aprox
Diameter: 15.5 - 16.5mm
Thickness: 4mm aprox

Numista link: https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces49940.html
The only other place i could find my exact coin sorta is this museum: http://www.fitzmuseum.cam.ac.uk/opac/search/cataloguedetail.html?&priref=92707&_function_=xslt&_limit_=50

My question - Is my identification correct ? Should the coin have a date on it ? I've seen some Malwa coins with the date slightly below the Chanderi mintmark. Is this coin copper ? It looks ... very wierd.

Thank you for your time
1) Pretty much the same
On boverse, we could read AH1247, but the Krause says 1(2)47 ?

and the numista link seems not accurate in comparison to the Krause picture https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces47194.html

So i'm going to assume that's a "7" and not a "5" - but what language is that ?
And yes, i noticed the numista picture is different on one side, but i've read that this coin was very crudely struck, even my medieval standards and it depends on luck where the strike landed as the inscription is much bigger that what we can see.
I'm not sure at all for the "7" and it would be in contradiction with the SCWC legend: 1(2)47
Numbers are sometimes difficult to read.

Remark : To be readable on smartphone, pictures must be put in image-mini on Numista

Thank you, that helps. It makes things clearer and more confusing at the same time.  :O  (8

What do you mean ? The images are readable on my phone. Last time i made a thread i posted OUTRAGEOUSLY big pictures (5000x5000 big). But that's because most people who ID coins (on facebook/zeno) constantly complain about images being too small.
The pictures i posted in this thread are aprox 650x650 big - not too big i think.
As a major fact, I've got no smartphone.
I've just large portable phone ; one with buttons that weighs a ton and costs an arm.

Oh great sujit_kumar you are my only hope. May your ever-watchful gaze fall upon my humble thread.

1. Dokdo - Junagadh state: The Date is more likely to ve 124(?) or 12(?)4. One digit is missing from the date which could be due to engraving error. Please note that it could have been 1217 as well but i see that the "1" is very well connected to "7", So that makes it a "4" in my opinion. Also AH 1217 would be a date outside of Bahadur Khan's reign.

2. 1½ Falus - Mahmud Shah I - Gujarat Sultanate: The date on these coins should be towards bottom of your 1st image. Either worn off or out-of-flan in this case.

3. 1 Falus - Mahmud Shah II - Malwa Sultanate: In some coins of malwa the date is there but in this case i don't find one. Clearly Chanderi mint with heart mint mark.

Thank you for your help !

One last question tho - i've seen this thing on several Gujarat coins in my searches:

Is that part of a word i can't see ? Does it link with the word Mohammed which should be on the part that is burned on my coin ?
Is it a number ?
Is it distinctive for Gujarat ?
It's part of the letter "al-Fath" It is supposed look more like a nagari "4" but it looks like a "0" in your coin creating confusion.

Here's the section of Rajgor's book with inscription on the coin of this type.

Thank you, that cleared things up. :)
I wish books like that could be found around here too...

I'll mark the thread as solved.

Hey, what the hell. This coin is slightly magnetic !!!!

I managed to find another Malwa coin sold here that is also slightly magnetic.  http://db.stevealbum.com/php/search2b.php?cp=23&ct=mlwa

Do fakes for this cheap coin exist ? Why is it magnetic ? :(
Maybe due to some impurities in copper? i have no idea!
