help authenticating New Zealand 1954 proof 3 pence coin [opgelost]

I went to the coin shop the day before yesterday and I wanted to get a New Zealand 3 Pence coin, because I like the design so much.

I picked a BU proof coin which was marked as 1953, but when I got home I noticed that the coin is actually a 1954. So I want to make sure it is a 1954 proof because the price between a 1953 and a 1954 proof is more. I just hope it is a proof.

I plan on going to another coin collector in town to authenticate the coin. He's been in business for over 40 years and knows a lot about world coins.

Anyway, if anyone has suggestions on how to go about this I'd appreciate it.
