Ethiopian coins [opgelost]

7 berichten
I just purchased a silver Ethiopian coin that, according to the catalog, is supposed to be a 1/8 Birr or KM #2. The problem is that the coin I purchased is 40mm in diameter and weighs 28.08 grams which indicates that it is, in fact, a 1 Birr or KM #5 piece.

Both coins have the same silver content but, now, I don't know how accurate the rest of the information is under each coin's listing, such as mintage numbers and years minted.

Maybe someone at Numista has the power to swap the respective coin's photos and additional information might be able to help out?

Many thanks!

P.S. I'll say it was a great deal I got on the coin for $21 USD when other entries on the website were asking well over $100 USD for the piece.
Could you please tell us in which way the catalog tells you that your coin is supposed to be KM#2?
Because all the informations seem correct and so do the pictures. 1/8 is much smaller than 1 Birr and the pictures are also from a small coin (1/8 Birr) and a large coin (1 Birr) if you look at the details.
After doing some further research on the matter, I've found that the coin I have is a fake. It might be silver but it's not a real Ethiopian Birr of any denomination.
Okay, sorry to hear ... but could you post some pictures for the benefit of the community ... every information on fakes is valuable.
Here is the coin in question...

The coin has the denomination of a 1/8 Birr with the dimensions of a 1 Birr coin.
Thank you!
Yeah that looks quite different from the real deal ... far less details and missing or altered design elements, the cornucopia mint mark is just a squiggly line, a cross instead of a rider etc.

Sucks for you but maybe it motivates you to research unfamiliar coins in the future to not get fooled so easily by all those forgeries and copies the flood most markets. ;(
As I remember, it is a replica of birr, made in 1960-s. And if I remember it was struck at Paris.
iNFORMATION IS NOT 100%.
BUT IT IS NOT FORGERY. ITS OFFICIAL TOKEN/MEDAL
