I have been hard at work improving the "Tokens - Canada" listings. I would like to suggest some new categories that should be created for better token organization:
"Canada - Wooden tokens" (self-explanatory)
Example 1
Example 2
Example 3
"Canada - Municipal medallions" (medallions issued by towns and cities as keepsakes or souvenirs)
Example 1
Example 2
Example 3
"Canada - Corporate trade tokens" (tokens valid for goods or services at certain companies or stores - includes car wash tokens)
Example 1
Example 2
Example 3
"Canada - Corporate medallions" (medallions issued by companies, often for promotional purposes)
Example 1
Example 2
Example 3
"Canada - Utility tokens" (issued by local governments and good for fares, parking, transit, relief, etc.)
Example 1
Example 2
Example 3
"Canada - Casino tokens" (self-explanatory)
Example 1
Example 2
Example 3
P.S. How can you help improve the token catalog?
1. Fix worthless listings. These are listings with shoddy, uncropped photographs and no descriptive text (if descriptive text is present, it will simply re-iterate what is written on the token, either be in ALL CAPS or all lowercase, and probably be in French too). If you can, crop the photos, and at least fix the descriptions and legends. Fixing worthless listings is like pulling thorns out of your skin.
2. Find a pattern and enforce it. The token catalog often seems crappy because of all the differently formatted titles (many of which are worthless - see #1). If you find a format that works, why not edit all similar listings to match that format? This is what I've been doing with local trade tokens (the formula is: "[locality], [province] - [token name]"). This makes the catalog seem coherent, rather than just a dumping ground.
If everybody took five minutes every day to fix the token catalog, it wouldn't suck so hard, and some moderators wouldn't keep threatening to unilaterally delete it!
