The United Arab Republic was removed from the catalog because its existence had no bearing on the coins that were issued by its members (because Egypt and Syria both maintained their separate currencies). This is also why Austria-Hungary is not in the catalog.

The decision to include the UAR as a separate country was somewhat controversial at the time. In the catalogs the coins are listed under Egypt or Syria, as each country functioned separately, minted their own coins, had their own governments, political policies and military. Syria had a coup three years into the union and withdrew. Egypt continued calling itself the UAR until the early 70's. With those things in mind, the coins gradually migrated back to their respective countries, and last I checked, UAR was empty of coins. I think someone finally deleted it, not as a rewriting of history, but just a practical consideration when it comes to organizing the coins (much like the World Coin Catalog did).
That's what I figured happened. Makes sense. And the revisionist/leftist thing was in jest. I know we are all history buffs here and wouldn't tolerate much tampering with the truth.
