Should Vichy France get its own listing?

As stated above
Vichy France is nothing compared to all of the other Frances - specifically, at least five Republics, two Empires, and some number of Kingdoms that I forget. The dismemberment of France would be very messy indeed (and essentially pointless, considering the continuity between coins issued by vastly differing governments).
Me neither. There is no need to split this way. If we need to split anyway, we would have to select a bigger minting year range.

If anything we could separate France by 'dynasties', where the different governments are separated (Mexico as an example). Otherwise there is no difference.

Why Yemen is split 5 times is beyond question.

No, why should it? I like Eli's approach to Mexico and I think it should be adopted for all countries.

Unfortuantely, how will we differentiate between a "dynasty" and a region?
Dynasties are chronological, regions are timeless. I've adopted dynasties for Afghanistan and Vietnam, really does help sort out the coinage.

Yes, but they are treated the same way on Numista.
No, regions are alphabetical, governmental changes are chronological

Yes but they show up the same way on Numista.

For example on a coin page for a 1 peso coin from modern Mexico, it says, Mexico (Estados Unidos) and on the coin page for a pfennig from Prussia, it says, German states (Prussia)!!
Okay I see, but "regional" coinage is only listed in "regional" countries, those with "provinces" or "states" after the title.

Personally I think the North and South German states should be separated (Reichstalers vs. Konventionstalers) but that is a talk for another time.

Not always, how about China - Empire? ;)
Yes, was thinking of separating Kaiyuan and earlier coinage as "China (ancient)" to separate the early knife and wu zhu coinage.

Also think Austria - Empire should be created... should we make a new topic for this?

No, leave Austria as it is!
On the same topic, Ruanda-Urundi and Belgian Congo, which are listed in Belgian catalogs as the same country.

Ruanda-Urundi and Belgian Congo are in the Belgian catalogs NOT listed as the same country:

It was only when I split the Delhi sultanates in dynasties that I started to understand their coins. Sometimes its very useful.
This thread explains a little better.

The main purpose of moving coins around is to make things easier for collectors, to simplify the catalog, and to be as historically accurate as possible, separating by dynasty achieves this goal, so does combining Congo and Ruanda-Urundi

.
Okay, but given the fact that there are so many types, it makes sense to split them up into these 'dynasties'
