Most modern issues by the Monnaie de Paris issue Essais on the first year of issue. However, Essais are listed both separately and together in year lists. Should essais be listed as separate pages as patterns, or listed alongside circulating coinage?
Essais should be listed separately, since many are official patterns or off-metal strikes. They are patterns that are issued for collectors and not intended to circulate.

As a collector of pattern coin (Liberia) I would like to see Essai or in English Pattern coins separated.
They could have separate entries within the countries or something like the Tokens section could be created for Essai/Pattern coins.
Xavier should give his opinion on this.

One more issue between French and US classifications. Essai, aka. "trial" or "pattern", is classified in most French literature as part of the global coinage (like Gadoury books of French coinage from the Revolution to the printing year). This would even include unusual metal patterns (for example: 2 Francs Semeuse with 1978 patterns made of gold, silver and nickel). But you say that Krause books are classifying patterns apart. Here is an example of such issues which should be submitted to admins.
