I generally like the ideal of swaps, but I will no longer participate in them. I am done.

I will from now on simply do as most collectors have have done. Search out the shops and the internet and pay. I have not decided whether or not to quit this site all together, but I will decide over the next few days if the organization of this site is worth the trouble of keeping track of being on it.
Why is that? We have some good chats on the forum don't we?
Sad news Frank, I enjoyed our swaps and our many conversations.

Is this a result of a recent bad experience or just general dissatisfaction?
Non illegitimis carborundum est.  Excellent advice for all coins.

I was in a similar situation last summer, and I have returned to the site on a less active mode, turning down a lot of offers and going for swaps more selectively.

There are few things I do believe will not change in this site unless is privatized (not charging users) but having a real organization.

meanwhile I just keep working on my catalog, do some research and keep a track on things.

Hope you stay in the forum as I enjoy some of your posts.

How come, frncsbrennan? You did 15 swaps, which were all rated 5 stars by both partners?

Swapping is tricky business, sure, and unpleasant surprises can happen (but pleasant surprises as well, for that matter).
Even if you don't want to swap anymore, in my opinion Numista is by far the very best site for managing your collection. That alone is already a reason for me to stay forever.
And although I'm already collecting for more than 45 years, I already learned a lot thanks to the forum, another reason to stay.

here here ! My collection started on numista !
I had previously been interested in coins as a child in the 90's but until around 2012 had no interest until I found them again, I remember always being interested as to why other countries had our queen on their coins. I guess that's how my collection has panned out too !
Give it some time. My 11th swap was with eitan190, and the whole fiasco left a bitter taste in my mouth. It was handled poorly by the site and my feed back still hasn't been fixed. I haven't got back to swapping yet.
frncsbrennan only you can answer those questions. There are some very ugly things with swapping, and iam with you on not swapping anymore. Just a few with good people. I hope you stay, and work out something that works with you. There are a lot of good people here, and I enjoy your posts. It is a good site for cataloging and learning. The only thing I can say is walk away for some time and think.
I think iam saying is don't throw the baby out in the bath water. Good luck in your coin hunting. And may you find peace and a lot of coins.
