Im too sad that Spain, Portugal and Lastin American countries are not involved in numismatic discussion. What I see here, - USA, non-French Europe, Canada, and Neilithic :) :)
Countries with so deep and interesting numismatic history... why they are not presented in our forums... Is it jsut Language barrier? But I know a lot of Spanish, Portuguese, and Latin -American ( Brasilian, Venesuelan, Argentinian and so on) people, who speak English quite well... So, where is a problem? Actually, I miss them here very much. Especially Portuguese gueys. Because I know about too high level of numismatic knowledge there
Where is reason, and how can we make them active?
Cerulean, - what a %- age of our Portuguese, Spanish, and L/A members?

Because I have many swaps with Portuguese members, I know that there are quite a few very knowledgeable members living there. I agree that they could make a valuable contribution to the forums.
And don't forget French members able to speak both French and English as well!
Except erdvilla (Mexico, Mexiiiiiiiiiiiicoooooooooooo... Sorry, French song joke ), I saw mainly IDs from these Spanish speakers. And few contributions from a new member from Brazil but who was not so much liking expensive coins.
Oh wait... Weren't Spain and Portugal in non-French Europe?
No, let's be serious... The referee of Portugal, posting sometimes in catalog section is Portuguese. And I remember another guy with a Russian-style name living in Portugal as well...
Administrateur du catalogue, référent de nombreuses nations antiques et de la Lorraine.
Catalogue administrator, numerous Antique nations and Lorraine referee.
In the case of Portugal and Brazil, I think the main justification is there's 3 forums for portuguese speakers where all the portuguese numista users are everyday involved.
I see a few portuguese members using this forum, but unfortunately not every day.
I grew up in the Panhandle of Oklahoma. It is almost the opposite of surface water availability. This is one reason I absolutely love the coins of Portugal and Brazil. I would enjoy seeing and participating in more threads about these countries.

We used to have a very active member from Brazil around 2011 or so who was one of the most charming and polite collectors I've ever encountered. He was very active on the forums and had concluded lots of swaps without any of the problems usually associated with that part of the world.
Sadly I don't think he's active anymore and can't remember his name or username. Possibly Olivetti or something similar to that? Can anyone recall who I'm referring to?
Non illegitimis carborundum est. Excellent advice for all coins.

If Olivetti is the person you meant, he's indeed very active in swapping (423 ratings!), and he still is with almost 30 swaps last year and 1 this year.
Although with 172 forum posts in 5 years he's not that active on the forum. So maybe it was yet someone else you meant?

in his profile: I do not speak or write in English, French or Spanish, using an online translator for this.
Yes, that's the feller. I'm surprised the he only made such a small number of posts, perhaps because of the language issue he only posted when he had something substantial to say and that's why I remember him?
Over 400 swaps with perfect feedback would suggest to me that the mail service, in at least that part of South America, isn't quite as bad as we've been led to believe.

Hi Phil!
In the era befor Numista, when we were swapped through websites with so-called " good traders" , Brasilian and Argentinian collector always were at the top in quantity.
I had several swaps with brasil ( not only coins) and always everything was perfect.
Well, what I understand from this topic, that
1. There are three big numismatic Portuguese forums, where most of Portuguese serious collectors are involved.
2. I think same with Spanish collectors. And probably with most Latinoamerican ones as well.
I would be happy if at least 1-2 active member from Portugal should share his knowledge about Portuguese and colonial coins. In case of active members I think, such topics also would exist. but as we dont have number of knowledgable Portuguese collectors here, we dont see here topics about Portuguese coinage, and their colonial coinage, which is very interesting ( for me :) )
I hope we will mre and more discussions around this theme, and our Spanish, Portuguese and latinoamerican members will be more active.
