Washington Quarter Album Completed

Early in 2016 for achieving milestones I know but I completed the 1959-1998 album this morning after a brief visit to my local coin store yielded an uncirculated 1961D. It's not really high value or particularly hard to complete (although the first 2 1/2 rows on page one are .900 silver) but when I took up collecting again after a break of some years this was the first album I started on, so after such a long time I'm quite pleased. Almost all are mint state coins with a few AU ones which I'll eventually replace and then buy a better album as a permanent home.

By way of contrast this is the state of my 1932-1957 album-

18 ugly looking empty slots are still to be filled. If anyone can help fill these final gaps I'd be most grateful. Missing dates are - 1932D, 1932S, 1934D, 1935S, 1936D, 1936S, 1937D, 1937S, 1939S, 1940D, 1940S, 1942D, 1946D, 1946S, 1947S, 1951S, 1954D, 1945S.

In total the entire series from the first issue in 1932 to replace the unpopular Standing Liberty quarters, to the final minting in 1998 when they were in turn replaced by the State Quarters consists of 146 different dates / mintmarks of which 81 are .900 silver. The key dates are the 1932D and 1932S each of which have mintages under 1/2 million. It's still possible to find either of these in collectible condition for under $100. Common date pre 1965 can be bought for melt value (currently well under $4) in VF or even EF grade, with UNC coins at around $10 each. After 1965 the price drops to a couple of bucks each making this one of the most affordable but long running series to collect.

The highlight of the collection so far is the nicely toned uncirculated 1932 (Philadelphia mint). Not bad for a bloke who doesn't really collect US coins eh?
Non illegitimis carborundum est.  Excellent advice for all coins.

They look fantastic Phil, I love seeing whole collections displayed nicely like this. Working on the State Quarters and America the beautiful quarters myself and can't wait to have all the spaces filled :)

Good luck in getting your missing 18, I'm probably not likely to come across one you don't have, but if I do I'll keep you in mind.

T'other Phil ;)
Nice, but that feeling when you complete a collection is bittersweet. The sweet taste of success, having completed a task, with the bitter realisation that you've got nothing left to hunt for.
looking good. I don't do sets like this myself but I always like seeing them, its a great accomplishment. As for the second album, it looks pretty good too, its taken me 15 years just to collect a roll of silver quarters. But that's just casually searching.
Taking a break from swapping for a while, but still interested in pre 1799 Spanish coins, I will make time for that!

Looking for pre 1783 coins

There's always something more to hunt for!

Yeah, there's always upgrades.

I think if I can get it filled with UNC from 1950-1998, VF for 1940's and F for the 1930's I'd finally consider it complete and put it in the bank until I decide to sell it to buy a few more acres of East Tennessee to add to my Kingdom. Full set should fetch upwards of $1,000, that's about an acre of no road access woodland.

Now that sounds like a lovely use of coins...I'd do the same though I'd prefer northern Vermont or down east Maine as a New Englander. Collection looks quite nice btw congrats :)
I have a complete collection of quarters from 1965 to 2008, all collected out of pocket change and a little bit of roll searching. Of course, mine aren't all in UNC condition, but it felt like an accomplishment to complete the 1964-1998 series without resorting to seeking out a specific coin. I'm just missing a few of the 2009 territories and then that folder will be complete as well.

Was the Standing Liberty quarter unpopular at the time? I wonder why. It is one of my favorite designs, and I think my type specimen is the single most expensive coin I've bought so far.
