Citeer: "EMS911"Here in North Carolina, it is 28°F (-2°C), currently sleeting with about 1/2 inch (1.2cm) of snow on the ground with more to come!
Just waiting for that to make its way up to my neck of the woods in the form of a weekend blizzard but currently it is about 25F (-4C) and super sunny. the calm before the storm if you will
It's 10 am in Florida and we have beautiful blue skies and 67 degrees although you can already see this afternoon's rain showers forming out in the Gulf of Mexico. The water is quite calm, it looks like deep green glass right now. Perfect sailing / fishing weather. There's a whole bunch of green parrots squawking at the squirrels and being a general nuisance in our maple trees and Red Cardinals hopping along the fence.
We had a nice start to the day with morning coffee (plus chocolate milk for The Abbinator) sitting on the rear patio with all three of us holding hands under a nice warm blanket, watching the sun come up in a pretty pink and purple sky and just listening to the world coming alive for another day. That pre dawn period is my favorite time of the day and worth getting up a little earlier for.
Winter is notable for the predictable climate, mid 50's at night time, around 70 degrees during the day and usually we get a few rain outbreaks from 2-4 pm every day, just enough to keep the lawns green.
Snow is not in the forecast. Good luck to everyone up North, we will be keeping your comfort and safety in our thoughts.

Only if North Carolina was just somewhat predictable. At Christmas, the high was 76°F, a week ago, it was in the 60's, and now we have snow and ice barely getting to freezing. ( 29°F suppose to be the official high)
Was rather cold here in Twin Cities a couple days ago, with temps dropping to -2-4F (-19-20C), but it has now warmed up to a more comfortable 22F (-6C), with 24F in the weekend forecast.
I think it is the driest day for over 400 days I can remember. Completely sunny with the erratic high withe clouds. No wind; but yeah, the skin really feels the dry air. We usually are around 45-70%H. Temperature is a bit cold -in average- as our usual temperature is always near the 30°C, so even when it isn't cold for many other countries' standards we do feel the -5°C change, and during nights it goes down to near 10°C, so a -20°C change can prove really bad for your health if you don't cover yourself at night.

I shovelled the drive on Monday and twice on Tuesday for a total of about 25 centimeters (10 inches). First appreciable snow this winter. Temperature dropped to about -19 C (-2 F) this AM from about -2 C (28 F) yesterday afternoon. Typical southern Ontario weather.
As for wildlife, the chickadees and cardinals become active at sunrise and the crows wait to strafe our cats every morning but alas, most birds go south. Did see some wild turkeys on Wednesday though. They started a reintroduction program in the 1980's (previously last reported in 1909) and I would have to say it is working.

I love those three storey houses up north, as in Sujit's picture. We had a very similar looking home in North Hill when we arrived back in the US from England. Three storeys plus a full basement and those beautiful wooden window seats on the first two floors.
I don't think I could go back to living with so many people around me, and of course such a house wouldn't last longer than the next hurricane but I really miss having a basement. Yeah coins etc. in the attic rooms, tools in the basement..... perfect.

Currently here in SC is melting, but had time to play with my girls and build this before hot cocoa in front of the fire. The birds are part of the great thing of snow, it seems they love the snow. We had a family of nuthatches looking for bugs on the trees, and dark eyed juncos move down from the mountains in the winter and they hop all over the yard. Once it gets spring you won't see a one.
Taking a break from swapping for a while, but still interested in pre 1799 Spanish coins, I will make time for that!
meanwhile in Paradise (Rotorua NZ)20 degrees in the shade- trying to get some DIY done on my dear old home, but can only handle in short spells--- just came back from a holiday in New Caledonia, everyday over 30o and as bad as 36o-- good excuse to spend alot of time in Pool or Ocean
Currently, it is -7°C with the wind it feels like -12°C but the low tonight is to go until -15°C but the wind it will feel like -21°C. Currently it is just slightly cloudy but no snow in the forecast. Currently 6pm, but there is about 15cm of snow outside.
South of Brazil, Rio Grande do Sul, 39°C yesterday, an horrible heat wave, quick storms almost every end of day, today the weather forecast says it will rain, thank gods.
Yep, the worst thing about it is the playoff game for the domestic cricket competition is today. And since my team was ranked lower on the table, if the game is rained off we get knocked out of the competition.

Its just above freezing in NYC and slowly the massive piles of snow are melting revealing either A. garbage/recyclables left out the night of the blizzard or cars...I'd prefer buried treasure but I guess this will have to do on a budget!

No, they are near my home, I took this picture sunday going to a small river to run away from the hot weather.
I'm afraid of cows. They were looking to me with murdering thoughts, I was very nervous.

Can you post a photo of the river where you like to hang out? Do you swim there? I have a spot in a mountain river that boaters lose all kinds of stuff. I swim across the bottome looking for stuff. I did find a $400 cell phone in a waterproof cellphone case. Sadly they didnt shut the seal.

Of course:
By the way it wasn't me who took this picture, was a friend of mine more talented on photography.
It is a small river very unknown, I live in a small town (20.000 inhabitants), so few people know the place. Indeed there must be old coins in the bottom of this part of the river, it is very deep, but the water isn't much clear.
In this video you can see a guy standing on the rock next to the rapids, there is a hole in the rock you can go in and about 9 feet down it takes you under the crazy water, and its actually calm down there! I love swimming it, you can see amazing fish, like the largest trout I have ever seen.

Very nice, there are some rapids around here, since we are in the summer, those places are very crowded now, as for your question, no, I do not swim there because I do not know how to swim, none of my family knows, we swim like rocks... Anyway I love rivers, and I always go to them, but I stay in the safety of the shallow places

Ha, that's Elephant ear in the center of your shot! It in not native to the Americas, but it grows in the creek behind my childhood home too! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Colocasia
I love seeing photos of our fellow Numista users areas. its better than just looking up photos on google, you can get a story with it!

Amazing! You know a lot about botanics for sure! I wonder how does that plant got growing in such far away wilderness, I see those elephant ears in very far away and depopulated forests, they can grow really large leaves.
It is from india, but it is so weird since the south of Brazil began to be mostly inhabited by immigrants from Italy, Poland and Germany in the late XIX century, before that, this region was settled by local Guarani indians.
I really love threads like this one, I guess the love for coin collecting is connected for the amazement of stories that cross time and geographical space.
I know the plants that grow in the forest here, it just so happens that we both live where people planted elephant ear as an ornamental, or your people might have planted it for food.
Here is where my elephant ear grows but now its covered by this dam! Look to the Canada five cent to find the culprit!
