Wich coins of your own country are hated by the normal people? Here in México no one looks to care about the 10 centavo coin, wich you can find everywhere in the streets, i've even saw how a bus driver throwed about 50 coins of 10 centavos, lets make a list for every country.
None really, when the denomination isn't worth much we get rid of the coins. The 1 and 2 cent coins were pulled out of circulation in 1990, 5 cent coins were removed in 2006, now our smallest denomination is 10 cents.
The US cent (aka penny) is pretty much worthless. Businesses still hand them out so as to make exact change, but most people just dump them in a tip jar or a change jar at home. I've even heard of people who throw them out!
The half dollar and dollar coins are currently only minted for collectors, but even when they were minted for general circulation they never circulated well since before I was born.

I think it's the same for Canada. I think that's why the early 50c coins are so expensive, they were pretty unpopular and so not many were minted, and some were melted down.

What if you have to pay for something ending in 5, like $9.95? or are all amounts there ending in 0? odd.
Here would be the penny, which has taken the top spot over the half penny for the most useless coin that a lot of people toss out of their change, I used to always dump them. (Decimal 1971-now)

Some EU countries use the same kind of rounding to avoid the use of 1 & 2 euro cent coins.

LOL! This question is so funny! Many Americans (now I know that you're not American, but this is the largest group who find it mind blowing) have asked the same thing when I told them that we were withdrawing the last subunit coin, 50 öre.
Also when Canada withdrew the 1 cent coin, and people started to consider if the US would do the same thing. Then everyone was like, "but what will happen if something end with like .99?".
I mean, if you go to a store and buy something for, let's say, 57.49 (yes we still have these prices, even though we haven't had the 1, 2, 5, 10, 25 öre coins in like 20 years now. The 50 öre coin was withdrawn in 2009.
But the question is: How will you pay for it??????
1) Since most people pay with credit cards these days, you simply pay the exact amount.
2) If you pay cash you simply pay 57.
If the price is 57.99, you simply pay 58 in cash, or 57.99 with your credit card.
But to answer the question Coins still minted but not used by people anymore, I would say all of them! Here in Sweden people hate (they really do hate) cash. The only ones who uses cash regularly is the immigrants (and no, I'm not kidding!). Where I live there are about 95% immigrants, so I now how much they use cash. They walk around with thousands of SEK in their hands, while all the Swedes simply uses their credit cards. This means that the beggars on the streets are having a hard time, since no-one has any spare coins to give.
PS. I didn't mean to offend any Americans by my statement above, but it seems like the Americans are too fond of their coinage, and can't even imagine to remove even the 1 cent from circulation. The uncertainty how to may 9.99 in cash without the 1 cent coin seems to be so far from reality that it almost scares them. At least this is how it has sounded like when people are talking about the removal of the Canadian 1 cent coin, and if the USA would to the same.
Marketing professionals will die if the read your comment...
How they will price items instead??? No more .99 Cents for a Kilo of whatever... or .99 cents for anything in the market...
Funny fact is that always these .99 cents prices are equal to 1.02 /03/04/05/06/07 after tax... so again the whole thing about change for .99 cents is not 1 cent as I have never paid for anything that cost .99 with tax
ngdawa being American no offense . They just hate change. To the point of being stupid. When gas is up to 5 dollars a gallon . To make , handle and ship (all the coat to make). Each one cost up to 3 cents each. And both mints make a few billion each year. Just to have a large number of them taken out of circulation by being thrown out. Back in 1982 when they changed to zinc. There was a lot of talk about getting rid of them, that a large amount of people started a letter writing to the government, save are Lincoln. And the government that is voted in, does not want to get the voters mad over little things. So they put a blind eye to it and go on. Tax money well spent.
And I think most Americans think that if the "government " round things up they are being taken. Even though
they are paying more with the penny still around. Most Americans I think are short sighted . To the point of not seeing the road stops ahead. But they are on the road now so everything is fine.

Here in México when we buy something about 0.05 they just dont give us any change, coins are still used a lot here, i think 10 and 20 centavos are slowly taken out from circulación, as 20 pesos can be found in normal stores and supermarkets, people like to keep them

I think Americans, for all our national myth of the "can do" spirit of American innovation and progress, are some of the most stubbornly conservative people in the world. (Not necessarily politically conservative, but just in the sense of being resistant to change.)
Jesse11 that an under statement I know people who died in the 1980's still mad the US took silver out of our coins. I can still remember hearing " that just silly, now are coins have no value"
Sorry Emilianos01 we got way off topic. I really like this topic. I love the low value coins, And mainly collect them. But sadly most are being removed or have no uses

Going back to rounding. My father is about as tight as they come, I remember when we still had 5 cent coins and 1 and 2 cents rounded down and 3 and 4 cents rounded up. I was incredibly embarrassed because he would always make sure when he was putting petrol in his car, that his total was something like $10.02 so he got 2 cents worth of free petrol. That and his ability to head off to the local rubbish tip and return with more stuff than he left with.

Is that a true story? Wow. What a way to stick it to the "MAN"
Here in Thailand, The 1 Satang, 5 Satang, and 10 Satang coins are minted in sets only. No Aluminium coins have been circulated in people's hand.
The 25 Satang coins are almost worthless. They are still used in big supermarkets. And, if I do not remember wrong, the price of a non-air-conditioned BMTA bus ticket for the elders is 3.25 Baht (half of regular tickets).
The 50 Satang coins are still used in supermarkets and non-air-conditioned BMTA buses. The price of a non-air-conditioned BMTA regular bus ticket is 6.50 Baht. It was once 7 Baht but it reduced when the price of oil decrease. When I was a child the price was only 3.50 Baht.
Normally, Almost all the pricing in Thailand will be full Baht and no Satang part.
I was very lucky that I got 25 Satang 2530 ang 50 Satang 2534 yesterday. Both pieces are circulating key dates.

Your father is a smart feller and a man after my own heart. Look after the pennies and the pounds will look after themselves is what I learned sitting on my grandmother's knee.
I love it when people throw cents away, I pick them right back up again. They've even taken to tossing nickels away now which is great for me. I can't wait for them to start with the quarters. I don't keep any kind of tally but every couple of months or so I roll them all up and take them to the bank. I reckon it gives me enough to buy a couple of really nice premium coins every year.

I am a penny picker... have not issues with that... Is pretty funny cause I wear suits for work and I always get a funny look when I see a coin in the floor
During weekends I dont get the same look, but for sure their eyes roll, my wife is starting to pick them for me as I always find some coins placed in the counter in our flat :)
