Our newspaper has a daily quiz that my workmates and myself attempt each morning at morning tea. One of the questions in the "expert" section this morning (Questions are worth 3 points) was:
"What nickname was given to US Civil War General Thomas J Jackson due to his defensive strategy?"
Thanks to Phil's threads about the Civil War I got an extra three points this morning that I wouldn't have got if I wasn't a Numista member.
Yep, easy enough for an American, but asking American history questions in New Zealand would be the same as asking an American when The New Zealand treaty of Waitangi was signed. (Anyone know without looking up the answer?)

1892
Taking a break from swapping for a while, but still interested in pre 1799 Spanish coins, I will make time for that!
1840 is right, The treaty was an agreement with the English settlers and the native Maori tribes and marked the formal establishment of New Zealand.
I think the Waitangi crown was initially designed to be a circulating coin rather than as a commemorative, but something happened and it didn't go into production.

At least I knew that without any clues - I'm sure most Americans don't!

That's interesting, do you have any information on it? I've always wondered why it had such a low mintage.
The only thing I found said the run was limited and the government charged more for them than face value so people collected them as souvenirs rather than circulate them.
In turn I have learned most everything I know about goats and Fiji from our many discussions. Our local Indian restaurant now has Goat Vindaloo on the lunch buffet menu (all you can eat which is quite a lot)which I enjoy every time I go for lunch, usually on the way back from the fleamarket on Wednesdays. Each time I recall our goat themed conversations and your exotic bride and wonder if you would enjoy it if you ever decide to visit Florida. It's a long way to go for a curry but we have other stuff like Disneyland, the Keys and Everglades.
There is a quite magnificent carving of the great man on the side of Stone Mountain in Georgia. It's quite something to see and was created by the same folks who did Mount Rushmore. The local NAACP barbarians are demanding that it be sandblasted off. Over my dead body.
Non illegitimis carborundum est. Excellent advice for all coins.
