What is a Token and what good are they? [opgelost]

What is a Token and what good are they? I've got a couple and don't know what to do with them. I was just reading another post about Medals and Tokens. Guess it's a pretty sore subject. I was going to put in the tokens I have in but after reading the post on Medals guess I won't. But what good are they?

perhaps you should post pictures?

It really depends on the token....for example this token https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces27274.html is around 150 years old and reasonably rare, has a great history and it's worth about $30-$40. Whereas this one https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces21843.html is only a few years old and probably worth a few cents.
I collect tokens for the same reason i collect coins. I enjoy it! Don't let other people's likes or dislikes dictate what you collect. If you like them keep them, if you don't like them then discard them. That's my humble advice.

Trade only within the US.
Tokens and jetons were used localy for paying. Something like jeton/token for carwas, candy machines, parking possibilities, telephone boots, special events. German Notgeld is a good example.
Other tokens were given in a tanking station when buying fuel and the had a subject (footbal, science....)
Yet another kind of tokens were (are) the Nurmberg jetons. These were bad replicas of real coins. They also made counter tokens, used by traders to help makinh-g calullations

I like tokens, I do believe tokens came first, then coins. So they are a part of history. But really all coins are really just tokens, right. Just it is a government making them not a small group.
It is, what it is, or is it.
Thanks to all for your opinion, helps.

conders/merchant tokens had a different use than to make calculations

They were minted by merchants to make up for a shortage of low value coins that were in the country at the time. They were accepted in most places and then other shop owners could then cash them in by taking them back to the issuer.
So the tokens listed should be one that in some way was used as money and not just a round piece of medal that is given for just any reason? Makes sense to me since this is a coin collecting site if I understand you right, thanks.
