I would like to have the request page to only show the fields that I changed. And including (maybe hidden, with click to show) the fields of the French descriptions on the edit page would be great too.

This still happens!
When I submit a year line modification request with the comment in the English side changed, I must wait for this request to be accepted before submitting the same change in the French side for not overwriting one of these requests.
Also, if the requests in English take a long time to be accepted, I can forget to submit the changes in the French side.
This happens elsewhere, too. If I make a change to the comment section (edge, obverse, reverse, see also, etc sections) and somebody else makes a change to the same section the request that is validate last will revert the other change.

Yes, your case happens too. Two users can send a modification request about the same field. If the referee detect both requests, should and try solve the situation.
Perhaps the system, on the referee area, could display a warning when two or more requests affect to the same field (if this is not already done).
Another option: After a request is accepted, the other pending requests on the same fields could be changed to new status that require the referee or member to review the fields of the pending request.
But the case of this topic is different, and only happens with year line modification requests.
This works with other fields. You can submit a modification of the description on reverse in English, and after another with the description on reverse in French. These requests are independent and will not be overwritten.
Apparently this problem is too hard to solve as it has been open for 9 years. I would suggest locking out additional change requests while there is an open change request would solve the problem.

I do not know if you refer to my suggestion or yours. 😁
In any case, I do not think this is very difficult to solve, just that this suggestion was forgotten over time, and no one else noticed this problem.

Maybe this would mean more work.
I was referring to this post. Maybe it's easy to solve both issues. I'll let you know in 9 years.
