Hello All
I got these coins in a lot of uncleaned Roman coins. I don't think they are Roman coins. But what are they? The only thing I can grasp at is early Arabic.
They are both bronze; the one with a triangle on it is 20mm and 3.42gm; the other is 13 mm and 2.54 gm.
I do wonder if number two could be late Byzantine but I can't read the inscription.
Apologies for the state of the photography

Citeer: "Heretic_Cata"The first one is early ottoman by the ... look of it.
The second one i'm sure i've seen before, but i'm not sure where.
Thanks for the clue on that first coin, I'll follow it up. The obverse on the second could be a very schematic bust of an emperor or saint, but I've never seen a triangle on a byzantine coin before.
There are a lot of Golden Horde coins with triangles and floral shapes. I've looked through a few of them, but there are 8000+ on zeno. Then there are the triangular coins of the Chagatayids, and the early Ottoman triangle coins ...
It would've been easier if we could read the inscription, but it's very worn...
I looked through the Ottomans in Zeno and the nearest I could see were some of Suleiman Celebi about 1403 onwards. There were certainly some with the dots on the circumference like mine. It would help if the inscriptions could be read!
When you casually mention the thousands of Golden Horde types etc etc my heart sinks, Heretic, and I wonder if there is anyone out there who would like them.
WOO found something very close: http://www.zeno.ru/showphoto.php?photo=88343
The triangular thing was a "thing" in the ottoman mints of Syria Halab/Damascus, so i searched for things made in Syria before the Ottomans came!
Let's see if i can find something even closer.
WAIT A SECOND
The pictures you posted are not right - that's why things were so confusing for me. You posted 2 pictures - one with coin 1 side A and coin 2 side A; in the second picture, it's coin 2 side B and coin 1 side B.
This makes things easier, i might be able to find the mamluk coin.
Oh what a silly old fart I am . I just went back to examine them and it's true, I'd mixed them up. Start again...
But the Mamluk coin you found does look very similar to my triangle one.
