Hello,

Any opinions on the grade and value of my British 1926ME Penny would be appreciated.

VG+/F- overall. Possibly a solid F for the obverse.

NGC puts retail price of a VF20 at $275. I found a VF Details that recently sold on eBay for $224, and one that looks closer in condition to yours that recently sold for $45.

Caveat: I'm not an expert by any stretch! Just getting some grading practice in. :)
This is the argument I have been having with myself. I think the obverse makes Fine, but the reverse drags the coin down. I only paid 50 cents for it, so I can not complain.

obv f/f+ rev -f/f
UK prices would be around £10 mark, I have seen the same grade sell from just over £2 + £1 postage and up to £10

Hi Tony,

Thanks. I wish I could call it VF, but it isn't close......

F / VG net F-.

Congratulations!
Non illegitimis carborundum est.  Excellent advice for all coins.

I would say VG, for me the fact that the ear of Georgie boy has blended in with the hair drops it down below F.

I can't argue with VG either, and it doesn't matter much as it just a filler until I find a better coin.

Thanks all!

I would say VG-F like Neil. I am still waiting to find my first ME 1926....

I would call this a decent F overall. The ear on the modified effigy tended to wear faster than on the original effigy, so this degree of wear is appropriate for F.
I have been looking at my 1926 GB Penny, and I am still wondering whether it is a Modified Effigy (ME) or not!

Right now I am still working on my database (excel) with 27 K coins so far, and about another 13 K to go. It is a lot of work, but I love numbers, so it's productive too!
Near top left obverse is GRA BRITT lettering with a : colon between.
If the colon is in the middle it is normal, if it is to the left near A letter then it is Modified Effigy.
Like this from the good site of 'cobra' a Numista member ...

GRA : BRITT = normal
GRA: BRITT = modified

Wasn't there another thread by me enquiring about this?

Edit: Nevermind, I see you've also found that.
Thanks everyone!!!:`
