2 Silver Peace Dollars - 2 Questions [opgelost]

Hi all,
Was cataloging 2 peace dollars today and came across these two and wanted some input from some others.

Peace Dollar #1 - 1923 - REVERSE
See image Below - Note the "L" Shaped gouge. I just wanted some opinions on whether this is mint damage (die gouge etc) or post mint.


Peace Dollar #2 - 1922 D - Obverse/Reverse
See images Below -
Obverse: Note the holing (or punches) on the areas of the hair above eye and near ear
Reverse: In the areas of the Obverse punches the reverse has debossing


Any help would be appreciated.

I'am no expert, but do the rays on the 1922-D obverse look funky. Could it be a fake? Have you weighed it?

Both these coins are well used - the 1923 looks like a gouge and the 1922 looks like someone used a drill on it.
All damage to these coins where after they left the mint. Ed

​That is what i figured with the 1922. on the 1923 i question if its post mint....

Punches/gouges look to be made by a Red Rider BB gun. Pretty good markmanship IF the coin was in the air at the time. What kid with a BB gun hasn't tried to hit a coin?
