Hi,
Finding a lot in my box of coins this week. Now i found this one. Its a One Drachms Apothecary Weight (see images below). Trouble is I cannot find it in the catalog. I found a 2 Drachms here https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces62031.html
Anyone have any info on these? Are these rare? Can this token be added to the catalog?
They are neither coins or tokens so they don't really belong in a numismatic catalog any more than postage stamps and banknotes do. At least that's my view, I know others disagree and extend the definition to anything "coin like".
They are often mistaken for coins, quite understsandably. Drachms, Drachmai.......
I think they are pretty fascinating and I just can't understand why they are not widely collected. Perhaps the apparent lack of readily available catalog information?
Non illegitimis carborundum est. Excellent advice for all coins.

As Mr Nightingale has said they're neither coins nor tokens.
Although you may find the odd one or two in the catalogue that have slipped through, I don't think they should be in there either, they had no other purpose other than a physical weight, more functional than financial.
Attractive items, nonetheless.

I'm not an expert in any kind of coins, but I reckon I'm good at research and will do my best to help. Feel free to tell me my identifications/valuations/gradings are wrong. It's the only way I'll learn.
Some of the earlier ones are reasonably rare and valuable, but most of them you can pick up for $5-$10.
I argued the toss with one seller over here a couple of years ago. He had one for sale, I had no idea what it was, and neither did he. So I did some research and found out it was an apothecary weight, I found a collector of them and asked his opinion and he told me he would pay no more than $5 for it, but the guy wouldn't budge from his price of $30. Some people are so stubborn "I have never seen one before so therefore it must be rare and worth a lot of money"

it's unusual so I think I would hold on to it...
Thanks
